hello i was wondering if we should keep bsl i mean should we just kill pit bulls and rottweilers etc.
Thats kinda harsh dont you think well we should stop dog fighting but it's all micheal vick's fault for doing this, that's why bsl started when dog fighting was illeagl now they should keep an eye out for dog fighting (cops) if you own a pitbull or rottweiler did they uh took it away or something
I want gmod D: but i have to get css and half life 2 first

It's not just because of dog fighting, it's because certain breeds have a higher propensity for unprovoked fatal attacks.

It's really a shame, too, because, when given a loving home, those dogs are exceptionally sweet and loyal. People who train their dogs to be that indiscriminately violent sicken me.
Think you're pretty clever...

With these breeds, they should be HIGHLY regulated. No one should sell those dogs unlicensed, and before being sold... they have to spayed or neutered so that these stupid ass "garage breeder" from the ghettos don't sell their pups to people who want to fight these dogs.
Needless to say,
it's the people's fault and not the dog...
But, with better regulation, we can keep pitbulls, which are actually beautiful dogs in my opinion, but keep them out of the hands of irresponsible people.
But first measure is this-- spay and neuter them, so that ONLY breeders can sell them, where they can keep registration and use their discretion, to people who are more likely to take good care of them and not use them as vicious beasts.

I agree with fli on all his points. Basically, treat these dogs like guns. Have them registered and only let legitimate breeders do the breeding and selling.
I went on a milk delivery last Monday and I had to go to a customers trailer to pick up a check. He had his yard fenced in, firework wrappers and garbage all around the yard, and a dog, that looked either like a boxer or a pit bull, jumping all over me.
Now, the owner definitely isn't able to control this dog. He had a stroke a few years ago, and is just a moron in my opinion. The dog was in the trailer, comes outside when the owner opened the dog, and jumped on me; The dogs nails weren't clipped either. A responsible dog owner would have stepped outside or tied up the dog, instead of having the nice milkman get clawed and left wondering if he's gonna get his neck chomped.

After my own experience with this a few years ago, I really have to question how much personal responsibility there is involved in these "unprovoked" animal attacks you see on the news ever now and then.

another thing, alot of these dogs were bred war, which basicly means they were made specificly for killing people.
if something is dangerous then it should have restricted use

I would agree if strict restrictions were enforced. We have to treat these dogs like guns: they can easily be molded into killing machines bred for fighting, but we should blame the dog as it's not really there fault, rather it's the humans. So, we should do background checks etc... on the people looking to buy these dogs, to make sure they won't be used for illicit purposes. However, if an average citizen wants to buy one of these dogs because they think they look nice (which is understandable), then why not? If in a loving family they can be the same as any other kind of dog.

I assume that treatment of the dog can often be a factor, but I always hear the same story about how the dog was so sweet and well behaved right up until the one incident where a kid died.
Of course, usually it comes out later that the dog has a history of biting, but what can you do?

I don't hope to hijack this topic, but there is also the other question of municipalities banning specific breeds of dogs that are allowed.
NY state for example has a law against such bans, claiming a town can ban "large dogs" but cannot ban specific breeds.
A local city sent a petition asking for the legislature to repeal that amendment to the state constitution so that they could ban Pit Bulls after 2 attacks in 10 years, obviously the latter attack happening recently.
I really don't think banning the breed is going to do much of anything other than to piss off current legal owners and drive fighters even further away from legal.
Frankly, these people are going to fight dogs no matter what. If they can't get them legally, they'll get them another way. And you can't keep dogs from fucking with laws saying they can't.
Try telling the cat lady in town that cat's are no longer allowed by law...it doesn't magically make her 34 cats disappear, does it..those cat's aren't going to be immediately filled with a sense of civic duty and stop fucking every 30 minutes. It just doesn't happen.
Certain people should not own pets. Period. If you've ever been convicted of animal fighting you shouldn't even be allowed near a pet store. And laws are too protective of animal abusers. A dog can be beaten every day and never hurt another person, and when it finally kills the neighbor's dog, the owner is only slapped with an order to keep the dog tied up...well, fuck, that worked so well the first time!
I'm not a bleeding heart animal rights activist, but if you're hurting animals, you're fucked up in the head and probably need professional help. You shouldn't be allowed to keep them so you can continue to abuse them. And if police sting a dog fight, you leaving your fucking pick up truck there should be grounds for your goddamned arrest and clear enough evidence that you partook. Who hasn't stumbled on an Animal Planet show where the SPCA and police are cockblocked by these fucks who run into the woods when they arrive and then stumble back to their pick ups the next morning with a lame ass story? These guys should be arrested on the spot just for being that stupid.
Not to mention, the sport will continue anyway despite stronger laws and enforcement. If they can't get pit bulls, they'll breed mean beagles. If they can't get Beagles they'll breed mean poodles. These fucks won't stop just because a certain breed isn't available.
I say, don't discriminate a breed because people fucked shit up, you should just go to the heart of the problem and actually anally rape the people who do it (with the law, of course)
