Oh snap sorry guys, been under fire with school work and stuff for the last few weeks, haven't checked around much. I'll actually participate in the ext competition.

Yeah I could have done some more work on the faces, but it's hard to get around the glasses or Stamper and Liljim, I was afraid that I'd erase some parts.

Yet another 'dreamy' pic, I combined the orbs with the twist function and I think it looks pretty cool!

Sorry I too have been away unexpectedly, but I've seen some interesting stuff being posted while I was gone. Whirlguy's wallpaper was especially beautiful.

And speaking of this week's competition, since we already did movie posters why don't we roll with Ryuzaki1's idea and go with a music art theme this time 'round.

Photoshop Competition #3: Album Covers
-make an original album art cover for the artist of your choice-

-create a cover based on the artist's musical style, previous album styles or inspired by a particular song. Make a pre-existing album look they way you would have liked it, or create an entirely new album that you would have liked to see made.

-any musical act, any genre.

-try to include the band/music artist's name on the cover and the possible title for your "fantasy" album. Give it a professional look.

-be original

If you're already familiar with FontStock.net, then you know what a great resource it is for exotic fonts and scripts for any project you can think of. If you've seen a particular font somewhere, chances are they have it. Again, they're all available for free download and are a cinch to install.

This contest is my favourite so far!

I have a question about the competition, can't I just make something up because I barely listen to any music.
I don't know much about artists and covers, so it'd be really hard for me.

And making up a complete new band is REALLY original, right?

Three words: go for it.

The number one purpose for these friendly little contests is creativity. If you can't decide on a musician/band to do, go ahead and make one up, it's all you. It's your art, have fun with it.

This should be a challenge for me I guess...

I'm probally going to just try a Buckethead styled artwork..

Nikenick, I absolutely love your photoshops! I'm hell bent on learning how to do these kinds of photoshops as that I'm still new with Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended.

It's for Emarosa's "Relativity" album. I really like it's cover already, but I thought it'd be fun to make my on for it.

Found a picture of this old, dilapidated wall that was just screaming for some character, so I went to work on making it look even grimier and giving it a little graffiti and some fresh cracks. The burnt-out door on the second story was aching for art, it was a shame to leave it blank. Anyone who lives in the tri-state area knows what I'm talking about.

The idea was to have a darker kind of edge to this cover, like the one from sacred, but I couldn't match the contrast...at all...

Contest #3 Entry - Rihanna.

I wanted to make up a band myself, but I googled 'girl' and I got Rihanna and the pic was kinda perfect so I decided to make a cover about her.

I still think that this cover is missing something, I might add something later if I can find out what.

Hate by the Delgados is a very cool album in my opinion. However, I think the cover looks amazingly dull, aswel as their videos btw.

I wasn't going for anything evil looking. In fact I wanted it to mix with the optimism of the song, yet reflect the hate, and give it the same feel as the original cover, but make it stand out more.

That's odd, I never forget to include my picture. Oh well.

Very happy with how this came out after removing like 10 people from the town picture and finally finding a family view from behind of them looking up.

I've been taking a little time to listen to a song or two by the artists you all have been showcasing,
and I've come to the conclusion that you guys share some fruity fucking taste in music.

I decided to do another quick contest entry. I know there's some white bits coming from the CD case but I really couldn't be bothered to do it once I merged all the layers. The choice of album was because I wanted to use a particular technique and I needed a something appropriate.
