hmm, from what you're posting, it technically isn't downgrading, however, if it were me, i'd still shop around to see how far i can stretch my money.

I'd save my money a bit more and buy either a better HP laptop or a better Mac, because right now, it's not really worth it.

By buying the mac, you would be downgrading the screen size and the RAM and only upgrading the CPU. But considering you already have a decent computer that you aren't using for gaming, I see no real need for a new one.

It's not worth it if you've already got the laptop mentioned. They're roughly equal in terms of specification, so forking out another $1200 is pointless.

Although, the 2.4GHz processer sounds nice. Considering most shitty laptops have 1.8GHz or less (1.6 here). Other than that, there's not much reason to go for the MacBook. The extra 20GB HDD space isn't worth it, and all you're getting is a far nicer operating system. (inb4trolls)

You're always going to be able to get a better PC for the money you'd pay for the Mac, because you're paying for the brand. There's no way around that.

No point saving your money. As soon as you buy one, a better, cheaper one will come out. With the new specs you posted there, I'd say go for it.

If you do get it, you could swap the memory in the laptops so your new one has 2GB.

Your buying a Mac, of course your downgrading!

You're paying for something that has a worse screen resolution and less RAM. While the processor looks alright for a laptop.

It's not worth the overall downgrading.

Won't work.

Also, get the cheapest macbook available, then goto http://www.otherworldcomputing.com/ and buy what you need for shitloads of less money.

Good luck, I've had my macbook for about a year now and It works just as fast as it did when I opened it. You won't regret it I promise.

I'd say keep the HP for now, but if you really want a Mac, save up your money and get a Macbook Pro.

macbook pros annoy me just by the looks. i like the macbooks keyboard and simplicity. the macbook keyboard takes up like no part of the laptop at all, leaving giant random spaces near the mouse.

If you don't have to sell your current computer, I would buy the Macbook for sure. I bought mine after I somehow fried my old harddrive.

You won't be downgrading, and its a choice you'll never regret. <3

Too late. lol.

Anyway, I don't think you should do it. 13.3 inch is really, really small. To compare, it's only 3 inch bigger than that cheap IEEE laptop with 10inch.

I think you can get a much, much better laptop for 1200 dollars, if it's not from Mac. I don't know about your currency, but over here, 1200 euro's would be a pretty high-end laptop. Unless you want to spend half of that money on a better (IYO) OS, and the rest on the actual laptop.

If you're changing your laptop just because of that reason, you could just trash every computer in your house. I mean, you don't buy the laptop for the looks, but for it's ability/mobility.

I agree with the general atmosphere of this thread, in that a switch is wildly unnecessary and possible detrimental to overall computer performance.

What you have right now is a good laptop and you've stated no explicit need to get rid of it other than that the mac is "glossier". Besides which, you won't be getting full price back on your HP, even if you did sell it, so you'd still be down a few hundred for a pretty superficial change.

Someone once asked me why I call myself Unimportant. Simple, I said. As a nihilist, that's what I see everyone and everything as. In the end, we are all Unimportant.
