Honestly, what are they good for? not a damn thing!

Old people are completely useless, they cant drive, cant hardly stand/breath/eat or think!! Whats the point of keeping the eldrly around, i mean after like 70 we just shove them in a home where they are no longer a working helpful member of society but are slowly left to rot like old fruit left in the crisper!

I suggest we set an age limit OR have some sort of test that will determin ones abailty to function, if they fail the are put down! its a bit grusome but come on guys why keep them around!?!

There shouldn't be an age limit because some people can still function well past 80 years old, while some 60 year olds can barely walk. But in part I agree because when it gets to the point that you can't take a shit by yourself you're just a burden. And personally, I would rather not live if i was that incapable of functioning in day to day life. We shouldn't go to the point of killing the elderly off, or locking them somewhere against there will, but there must be some good solution.

no. no. You don't understand. We live in a democratic society. Politicians must convince the people that they represent them to stay in power. If you where to do away with the elderly several things would happen.
1) The elderly would stop voting for you.
2) The family of the elderly (the ones who actually LIKE their parents anyway) would stop voting for you.
3) non-voting stupid kids would be happy.

So you see in American society such a thing probably couldn't be made to happen. As to weather or not it SHOULD happen. Well I like my grandfather on my dad's side. On the other hand I hate my mom's mom. And the rest of my grandparents are dead anyway? where does that leave us? with 7,214 characters remaining apparently.

Because they served their part in this world.

Served is a past tense word. When something stops being useful stop keeping it around.

Babies aren't helpful in society either.

A baby is an investment that hasn't matured yet. In other words they are useful later on. In contrast a crippled elderly is no longer useful and will never be useful again.

True I for one want at least the illusion that I can live forever. I don't want to have a date that I know I wont live past. I know I wont live to the year 3000, but it's nice to at least be able to consider the very very very very slim possibility.

Well some of them are. And some of them make you wonder why god took the 7th day off instead of working. But that's the same for people of any age I suppose.

The real question is, why keep you around?

The only reason to 'kill off' an eldery person is if they actually can't take care of themselves. What I mean by that is if they need a diaper, can barely think, literally suffering day to day, ect. Hopefully technology will advance enough to allow humans to live healthier at an older age. There should never be an age limit to determine when a human life is to be taken. My grandma is like...70 something, and she doesn't need nor want a damn person to take care of her. Elders have played their part of life and it's the youth's job to take care of them.

The way I see it, elders are good for one this and one thing only: To pass their wisdom down to the youth. It's decently important thing.

They've lived their lives, the least we can do is respect them.

By your ideals, you would have no rest of life to live out. They should have cut your wire six years earlier, or whenever you retire - as you would lose your function after you lose your job.
