The Term Straight Edge

I seriously hate how people throw this term in so often when they use it wrong. If you don't drink, smoke and do drugs that does not make you Straight Edge. That just means you don't want to do any of those. If your mom was a drug addict, your dad was a smoker, and all your friends drank, and you decided to be an individual who wants to enjoy life without being persuaded to doing those things then you are straight edge. Not what these silly twelve year olds think the meaning is.

In Colorado it gets abused a bit too. Most people really don't misuse the term, considering that most don't even know what it is at all, but the occasional dumbass will.

I honestly don't give a fuck about straight edge kids' decision. It's their life and their decision. If they don't bug me about it or tell me not to do something I choose to do, I won't have a reason to dislike them, as is with anyone.

I don't care about titles, it's what you try to do with them that I may, if happenstance demands, care.

Also, by the way the OP is describing it, it seems that to be "Straight Edge" you can't have simply disinterest, but must instead be outwardly defiant. It's like the difference between "No thanks" and "No".

No. It's not like that. A baby doesn't smoke drink or do drugs...but that doesn't make him straight edge. It's if during your life you have always had people try to get you under the influence of these things yet you be your own individual and not do what everybody does because you know it is wrong.

What were are trying to make you understand is that you don't have to have tragedies in your life to become straight edge, its a way of life that you choose. A person does not have to present them self as straight edge but if they do then its their prerogative. They may just want to live their lives healthy.
