Any help appreciated. 2008-08-19 19:02:42

Im new to Art. Ive always done Music, Sport, Acting and actually most other things that would be considered a common Art form. Im not a good artist. Although not very well, I draw pencil sketches, this is the type of art that interests me, along with digital art sketches, along the lines of MindChamber or FetusDoctor's works is what draws me most. (see MindChambers 15 minute Sketches thread.)

Im asking for any help, advice, anything that you think might interest me to try, particularly advice on how to get started with art as a hobby. Acquiring materials, including digital equipment is not an object to me. Meaning I can pay for things if they are necessary.

Im lucky enough to have Friends, Relatives and even Teachers and Mentors who are willing to support me in whatever I decide to persue, this is something I want to be able to do as well as I poossibly can, and I cant think of better people to ask than some of you guys.

I will not be posting any artwork, not for some time anyway. If you intend to, then please do so as a reference, or example, and explain yourself. I can find plenty of nice drawings in other threads. Having said that, if its relevent, and its good, then it will most likely help me. So I would like to see anything that matches that quota.

Thanks.

For reference in future posts, that does not as helpful.

what do you want me to say? fly to China, walk into a building, take the door on the far right, and press in the right combination to the safe? dude just grap a pencil, a paper, an art book and draw whats in the art book. its not that complicated.

you dont need anything pricey, just a damn pencil and paper. spending money on materials wont make you a better artist.

I know that. Im sorry, but your first comment just wasnt what I was looking for. The suggestion of an art book, that is what I was looking for. Thank you for that.

As for 'anything pricey', what I meant by that is that any suggestions regarding learning to draw digitally, might involve a graphic tablet or something, I dont know. Thats why im asking. I was just pointing out that if it helps me to learn to 'do art', then I will probably do it, regardless of what it is, or what it entails.

You turned me into a wreck with that post. I even worded my reply wrong completely wrong.

Thank you very very much. I shall stop being the majority poster on my own thread now, at risk of looking like an even bigger twat. Which would be difficult considering my activity so far.

Ok I do not mean to get into your personal life but are you in high school? If so try taking special art classes that is what I am doing at the moment. Although my high school does not teach digital art they do teach art styles and techniques. In the long run these techniques become very helpful for realistic art pieces and cartoons. If you are not in high school I recommend just practicing. Start simple, try drawing something simple like a pencil or a cup (lol just look at stuff on your desk). If it turns out bad don't worry just next time try to improve on it. Then as you work your way up try shadowing and trying to draw textures. Of course do not try rushing up to that point because art takes time and if your willing to learn and do art for a living you need plenty of time. And even post some of your drawings on Newgrounds and let people comment on it about what needs to be done to make it better. :D

the forum isn't really for threads like this, you should post samples of your work so that we may make suggestions.
