Moving on, this topic has probably been done at least 25 times.

Simple fact... "America" and "American" in the current nuance in basically the entire world refers to the US and US citizens/residents. It's not just people in the US that do it, even Canadians mean US citizens exclusively when they say "Americans". That is the current connotation of the word, and it is world wide.

A Canadian came in and criticized the American saying it even though it was essentially exactly what you said, there was no real different nuance or larger point. That shows a double standard because the actions were identical, just reversed. What I said was an actual objection to the logic behind what Canadians said, because I disagreed with it. So if the two things were the same, then Doom-Fan thinks someone is simply not allowed to say anything bad about Canada.

That's because citizens of the US are called Americans. Every other country uses their name in their term.(Brazilian, Argentinian, Canadian, Mexican)
