Hey everyone in this very programming forum!

I was wondering how much (roughly) it would cost to hire a programmer to code a content management system to upload, categorize and create its very own page for a flash game. I know there are plenty of free/pay scripts out there for arcade sites and such but I really wanted something different (I have a few other ideas to implement).

Now this doesn't include any graphics for the website as I would be able to do this myself. This is just a thought at the moment so there's nothing set in stone yet. Just curious at how much I'm looking at spending here.

Don't just reply stating that there are plenty of flash sites out there because I know that, it's just for a bit of fun which could possibly become a small money maker.

Thanks.

It depends on the amount of work there is to do (aka: you other ideas), but I'd estimate >$800.

And just for the record, I'd be interested in doing this :)

It really does depend on all the functionality you are wanting it to do, if you just want a page that will upload a flash file to the server along with a few text-based options it really wouldn't be that much code, it mostly depends on the size of the site and the functionality you hope to achieve

I will keep that in mind, thanks.

First of all, thanks for the response. I would say something similar to this site here on displaying the games and I guess just some kind of admin page for me to put stuff like title and description.

I did awesomeyay.com - I could set up your basic outlined ideas now for $150, a full list of features however would be needed, I'd say $300 for a full games management system, where you could upload games, add preview image, description, edit games, users could comment a news system, where users could comment, a member system with user points, game rating etc.

Yea that site is very very simple, it wouldn't take much code at all to do that, I wouldn't spend more than $100 for a layout as such, its really only 2 pages. (that would take a good programmer an hour provided they had the proper resources/information to get started)

based upon the site you provided above, if you wanted something the same as that, with a backend I'd be able to do that for $100. If you wanted a sort of "game selection page" where it listed all the games with a little icon, description etc, add $30 :3

But yeah, if you want something like that, don't be spending too much :3

It's a pretty simple idea, i would chance around 100-200 (the fact that you make all the graphics helps in keeping the cost down)
Tho depending if you want to have some more features it would cost a bit more (RSS feed of the latest games, featured games that get shown more often, sorting the huge list by alphabet and genre, maybe even some fancy javascript to hide parts of the huge list so the user doesn't see a wall a text etc.)

It's not currently online, well, it is, but after there was a problem with it's hosting it's being redone.

Ok thanks :) I'm sure when I get around to wanting this done I shall come to a few of you and see what you have to offer :P

Also, another thing that I didn't mention... but I suppose it goes without saying really is that whatever is done (admin control and upload etc.) should be secure. security is key these days :)

I'm not sure where you guys are getting your figures, but I'm pretty sure he is not just talking about a simple start_session login php script with some mysql organizing. If you want to be serious about it you should try to find a team of developers willing to work towards building an innovative site in their spare time for free or purely whatever the site makes afterwords. What your talking about is not $100-$200. With all the details your asking for, built from the ground up professionally can be around $5000 - $10000. Spending $200 for a portal site with logins, advanced organization tools, etc, to have a single programmer develop it will most likely end up being given up on in two months. Also, security is a big issue nowadays and unless you know what your doing most basic php scripts without SOME type of security measures can be cracked. Good luck with your project but I would suggest thinking a little bigger if your trying to do something "new" and "innovative" to rival the giants such as newgrounds, pop cap, armor games, or shockwave.

Good idea but plan it out a little more and work out all the kinks

He is asking us for a website that has
1.) A index that loads a random row from a database and shows the SWF that belongs to it
2.) A list that shows all the SWF files in the database
3.) An admin place protected by a simple loging mechanism that allows him to easily upload/edit/delete SWF files.
That is clearly not Newgrounds, not even close to it and if you would have read this topic instead of spewing out garbage you would have known that.
Now if you want to ask a few 1000 dollars for such a script you are ripping this guy off bigtime.
