4.07 / 5.00 10,082 ViewsI have returned from the dead! with a finished comic! i said i would deliver and i have! My comic is called Mannequin! 13 pages i'll be putting here! so enjoy and i'll narrate what's going on in every scene.
It's kinda hard to see i know sorry. I just wanted to show the cover page and first page together. What's happening on the first page is that there are two dolls on a desk they notice eachother and slowly slide closer until TADA a heart they have fallen in love, the little teddy on top the books is the priest and is marrying them! aww ^^
on with the show! so the two mannequins or dolls whatever get married and now they move in to their first home together. they get a little lovey dovey, black spot, and the magic of life has appeared their OWN baby. All is well on the desk!
I've zoomed in on the blurriest part so no one misses a bit of the magic!
hehe my dumbass forgot to post the pic in the last post!

not trying to be mean or anything, but if your looking at art as a career, (i dunno how old you are) but maybe thinking about going to an art college, i would stop doing anime/manga, i know firsthand that most colleges will practically rip your portfolio to shreds if you roll up with anime, i've seen it happen, it's not pretty.

First of all i don't only DO anime and manga. Obviously you can see that by the other pictures i posted that i have the potential to work in other things, second a art college would ignore my portfolio not because i did anime but because i didn't do the other things they required such as drawing from life, water color, landscapes, etc. I'm 16 and i am working on my portfolio with a professional art teacher. So far it's fine. I would have put what ive done so far but i haven't been in the mood.

I think hes only doing manga for the kicks. I like his original style though. I agree with you about not using anime style as the driving force behind the ambitions of the artist... well uh unless you live in Japan (manga/anime is very profitable there, ads, ads and tons of ads $$$).

i think HE'S a she but thanks anyway. Yes i am only doing it for fun. I don't plan on taking it seriously and making a manga series. Actually that thought disturbs me because most mangas have more art than writing in it and it took me one month to do 12 pages of a comic while a manga has over 100. I don't have the patience for that.
ANY hoo. Here is the next page of my comic. As you can see the happily married couple is enjoying themselves until the kitty puts a morbid end to a happy day!
ok WHY do i keep forgetting to post the page!? shit..
no...no he is a he...
since when was Ben an androgynous name?
And i wasn't saying you couldn't draw anything but anime or manga, that's exactly what i was saying you could do. And you can't be mad at me for thinking you just did anime, like you said you haven't posted any non-anime work up yet.
I'm interested in seeing some of your other works that are not anime or manga, care to share?
and on a side note, not all colleges require that you do still lifes and such, i'm right with you on the lack of still lifes in my portfolio ((you fortunately still have plenty of time to build up some still lifes, i do not), but there are schools that just want to see your art. MICA and SAIC don't have art requirements for your portfolio other than the number of pieces you need. So don't let a lack of observational drawings hold you back.

he was referring to ME who is a she.

I'm mad because you clearly don't know what anime is. Seeing as how i HAVE drawn non anime pictures. Yes some are cartoony but cartoon doesn't automatically mean anime. The first picture for example is definately not an manga. The Alice in Wonderland pic not a manga, the black and white ink pic below it NOT an manga. If all cartoony pics are manga to you then you might as well call superman and batman mangas too.
Colleges in NYC want to see what i mentioned. And now you are really starting to piss me off. Lack of observational drawings? you're looking at a PORTION of what i placed here. What ive done on computer paper and wanted to show people. I'm not drawing from life not because i CAN'T its because i don't want to. I've done it before and i did fine, i'm just more interested in doing what i want from imagination. And no i dont have time to build still lives as i'm a senior and i have a few months left until the colleges want my portfolio. I'm working with my teacher on that now to get it out of the way.
I don't have much time to put any pictures online. My camera needs charging and i'll have to go searching through my sketch books.
jesus christ! I'm sorry i've offended you, i can promise i had no intent of doing so no need to bite my head off. And i did not know what colleges you were applying to, i was just trying to help you out by suggesting some that didn't have specific portfolio requirements. And i didn't mean that you had a lack of observational drawings, i was saying that if that was something holding you back not to let it, there are ways around it. And you said you were 16, i didn't think you would be a senior, sorry that's may fault for assuming.
I'm just trying to help and you kinda taking what i say to literally, I'm going through the whole college shtick right now to, just doing what's in my nature and trying to help a fellow artists out.

I took it litterally because what you said was forthright. You pretty much assumed everything from my only doing manga where there is clear evidence that is not my main style of choice, to colleges which everyone knows each one looks for something different but the last i checked the major colleges in NYC all want just about the same thing, while places everywhere else want something different. Sorry its not decent advice if the person you are talking to doesn't believe you know what you are talking about.
Unless you actually get in to a college i'd hold back on giving others advice about it. Try commenting on peoples ate from now on instead of telling them how to do something you haven't even done yourself yet. I'm not offended or angry just annoyed because of how you were the only one who was so completely off about my art and yet you offer advice? i don't know if you can or cannot see how that is annoying but i do take all that is said about my work personally, i can take criticism just not from people who aren't any more advanced than i.
I will post more realistic pictures from now on.
you know i'm starting to think you don't like me, and i have gotten my portfolio accepted to SAIC and MICA so far, just haven't gotten around to the whole application thing.
And like i said sorry for assuming just basing off of what i saw, and trying to give you friendly advice.
Like i said i'm sorry for assuming, and most people appreciate the advice i give, i help teach art classes at a free after school program for public school kids, and i'm looking into being an art teacher. So i give advice and help people out on a daily basis, i'm not exactly new to this. I'm just trying to help... no need to get so angry. Once again i apologize for any offense

it's fine i'm not angry just annoyed.
well I'm sorry for annoying you, feel free to go bash some of my artwork if you want, it would be appreciated. Good luck with colleges :)
Haven't seen you guys in awhile. Sorry i guess i got a case of the fuckits. But here's a picture....?

The Interview went REALLY well i think i might have gotten in to SVA i'm so excited oh god i hope i get in.
Here's some more things but this is from when i was younger.
Page 4 and 5 of my comic MANNEQUIN sorry i haven't updated in awhile. No promises i won't do it again XD
6 and 7 -_-j ugh i feel the laziness again. Another long gap between pages is on the way rofl.

Riiight and i said this WHEN mr crazy?
Next part to my comic!
AND THE GRAND DAMN FINALE!
ugh and i still have another comic i did...dunno guys....this was a big pain in the ass i dont think i want to put another long comic here lol.
The bottom man is my dad ^^ i caught him watching tv and he didnt even realize i was drawing him lol. I made him really happy since its rare for me to want to draw family since i'd go crazy by not being able to get his face perfect but i think here i'm close enough to perfect.
The top picture is an idea a friend gave to me he kept going on about something about "red vs blue" flash maybe? well whenever i see him again i'll give him this picture. I actually dont mind giving away pictures to people i care about as long as i know they won't destroy it it's all for grabbies!
It's almost magical the way the water shines on the flowers. I'm definately not a photographer but when i see something beautiful i HAVE to take a pic of it. I use the pictures for art. I begged my asian friend to let me take pictures of her eyes because i need work on learning how to draw them but i already feel myself developing as a artist and person. I am learning to stop and look at things more closely and really learn to appreciate the things i took for granted.
I'm going to show you guys some more pictures of the same flowers with zoom ins and color changes. If anyone can give me advice on what i should do in the future to make these flowers look better or what i should do in the future when taking photographs i'd REALLY love that! Nothing has been edited to make these flowers different.

Nice to see some akvarel paintings.. I like the one with the soldiers (I like them both actually). You should post some more of that :)
At 8/14/08 11:54 AM, Sawke wrote: I just finished this one. It's from Devil May Cry. I saw the picture in a magazine and thought "needs blood and sword" so i went with it. Plus i added a few of my own touches such as changing the hair, eyes, coloring, and adding more ink. I don't normally do Fan pictures just to make that clear.
I hope you all give me tips if you know anything i can do to better my drawings please tell me!
Firstly you should have made Dante hold the sword inwards because kinda looks like a fork because not enough of the sword is seen.
Also the bone should only stick out a bit and you need to fix up the raw flesh exposed.
Apart from that, it's a very gawd.
Dash.Fall.Face Plant.
I did mention i got in to the school of visual arts right? if i did sorry for bragging if i didn't WHOO HOO FOR ME!!!! I'm going to be a cartoonist...this is the type of style i want to be drawing in..very realistic and and serious. Kinda like the comic Optic Nerve if you don't know it check it out it's seriously good.
