Puns are awesome. I think the lowest form of wit is a non-sequiteur.

Well, a pun is more a play on words, not just a joke. Example of a pun:

I'd say self-depreciating humor is probably the second lowest form of wit. Making fun of yourself is one of the easiest and most pathetic ways to get a laugh out of people.
