I've been toying to take the LSAT, the test to enter law school. On practice tests, I've done very well in reading and semi-well in the logic... but, goddamn, how do you answer these sort of question?
Please, someone, answer the question and EXPLAIN how you got the right answer... I got some answers correct because they were easy enough. Others I got correct by going "innie, meanie, minnie, moe." But some of the stump the hell out of me...
Someone, answer this question and tell me how you got the answer and why it's correct. This is a test question, for practice.
5. On the popular children's television show, there are four little animals that make up the "Creature Buddies" are digitally animate. Since that means that they can't make a live stage performance, while the Creature Buddies are on tour, each is represented by a puppet that is operated by a chief and an assistant puppeteer.
The Creature Buddies are a: Dragon, Gorilla, Kangaroo, and Tiger.
The Creature's Names are: Audrey, Hamish, Melville, Rex
The Chief Puppeteers are: Ben, Jill, Paul and Sue
The Assistant Puppeteers are: Dave, Gale, Pam and Tom
Melville isn't the puppet who is operated by Sue and her assistant Pam.
Hamish's chief puppeteer (who is not Jill) is assisted by Tom.
Ben is in charge of the dragon, but Jill doesn't have anything to do with the kangaroo.
Dave is the assistant puppeteer for the tiger.
Rex, whose chief is Paul, isn't the gorilla (who's name is not Melville).
What is the name of the Dragon?
A. Audrey
B. Hamish
C. Melville
D. Rex
E. Dave

There's a certain kinda chart you can make, helps you narrow down your choices. We do these in math class when the teacher has nothing better to teach.
Wish I could remember it though...

Hamish.
It'd be really hard to explain how I figured it though.

I got Hamish. If that's right, I'll go through how I did it.

Actually, it could be Audrey. It's one of the two, I'd have to do more to figure out which.

That's what I thought, too, but if you try and place Paul as a chief appropriately then it doesn't work. =\

It's a logic puzzle. Construct a table like this, and it's generally pretty straightforward.
The rules are simple, you go through the clues you have, and if a clue says that two of the people are related, then you put a tick in the box(es) that links them, and if a clue says they're not, you put a cross in there. There has to be (and can only be) one tick in every row and collumn, per 4x4 box.

Made colored rectangles for each name/animal, and made a grid. Then I dragged them into blank slots following each rule. Many of them where put in through the process of elimination, but that configuration is the only possible solution.

For those who want the answer... it's B.
Hamish.
And I still don't know about those stuff about charts... It seems to me that it should be easy and obvious if I just don't complicate it, but still....
I've decided to purchase a course to prepare myself...
