Why is communism bad? Why? Because it's not lol.

Because those are all corrupt
Thus we get the main problem with communism, how easily corrupted it becomes.
What can a thoughtful man hope for mankind on Earth, given the experience of the past million years? Nothing

I find people who believe Communism can work amusing.
Proud member of the Atheist Church
sweet21- they found his birth certificate and he wasn't born in America but Hawaii, so will he be fired from being the president?
Communism is awesome. Anyone who says otherwise needs to rexamine their views on the world.
That being said, communism is [sadly] improbable, perhaps even impossible, as evident in the corrupt totalitarian states that have arisen in the name of communism.
Okay, I'll play this game.
The concept of Communism has been in existence for well over a century now. WHY has it not caught on like wildfire as democracy has? Could it be that a truly equal society cannot exist without a centralized authority to ensure said equality and eventually leading into a socialist state, thus defeating the concept of communism entirely?

It DID catch on like wildfire. Half the world was embroiled in a fight for communism for decades during the Cold War. Sadly, the communism they faught for was indeed corrupt, and people recognized that fact with time, leading to the nearly global distaste of communism.
And if you speak of America in particular, the reason communism never "caught fire" is because in the early 1900's, during the rise of communism with the Bolshevik revolution, most amreicans couldn't handle the fear and unknown and opted to persecute supposed communists. The Red Scare.
Ironic really, since america hated the czars, and practically cheered at their downfall, only to turn around and change its mind.

Key term; did. My question phrased in the present tense; "why hasn't," not "why didn't." Communism itself still exists in various forms across the world, yet it has as yet to take a firm stronghold in all but a handful of shithole third-world countries where the people are forced into it via a militaristic dictator who has no concern for the people of his country.
Whereas democracy in it's various forms has been around since Ancient Rome, and shows no sign of wavering.
Sadly, the communism they faught for was indeed corrupt, and people recognized that fact with time, leading to the nearly global distaste of communism.
Case in point.
The Red Scare.
So basically, you're hearkening back ot the old logic that it never caught on because we never gave it a chance, hm?
Ironic really, since america hated the czars, and practically cheered at their downfall, only to turn around and change its mind.
Irony is the fact that Kruschev claimed in 1960's that Communism was the wave of the future, and yet, here we are.

You are describing communism when you talk about socialism by saying the state is the only way to ensure egalitarianism, which is impossible to achieve in any human society.

hey now, don't forget cuba. they'd hate to be left out. communism is so awsome there that most people get to enjoy making homemade rafts and go sailing to florida. i wish they would let me do that here in america.
Communism works well in concept but the problem is that just as capitalism relies on the (nonexistent) morality of the corporations that supply necessities, communism relies on the morality of the governing party. People corrupt rather easily, and communism and capitalism both require additional checks and balances that don't exist in any existing system of government or economy. Capitalism can degenerate into economic-recession-fueled anarchy, but communism can degenerate into a totalitarian dictatorship. Russia, for instance, had the right idea when the revolutionaries installed a communist state, but then Stalin messed it up and screwed everybody over. And then Reagan had to save the day, and Reagan was just as bad. So yeah, it works on paper, but it doesn't really turn out well. Honestly the only real system that has any chance to succeed is one in which the people are moral, and then it wouldn't matter what system it was. I know my opinion is probably not unique but that's it. Communism has too many ways it can go wrong.

What are you talking about? Reagan was awesome and so was Margaret Thatcher. Our economy underwent the transition from industrial to services under them. You only think it was bad because you don't understand the service sector or something.

Communism = everyone is equal, poor, and starving.
But seriously: there is no way to successfully implement communism without the people in charge of the government becoming corrupt with power.
When all else fails, blame the casuals!
look, the thing that makes communism bad is that though everyone is supposedly given equal status, most individuals will not earn thier equality. think back to early colinization of america.
John Smith right? before he took control of the fort and put down his "he who does not work does not eat" law, they worked with a "collective store house" system. that meant that everyone in the colony would put the fruit of thier labor, whether it be food, cloths, wood, tools, whatever, into the storehouse. anyone who wanted to could just go back to the store house and take what they needed/wanted. even if someone did no work, he could still go and take whatever he wanted. so what happened? people started to see that they didn't have to work if they didn't want to and could just eat what they wanted. others saw that when they worked 12 hours a day in heavy labor the guy who did nothing got just as much food as he did, so they decided, "if that douchebag is going to sit around and do nothing while i work my ass off and still get to eat the food i work to make, then fuck it i'm not working!" then no one was working, and there was no food, so no one was eating. then John Smith put his foot down and everyone worked hard and at the end of the day they shared a hot steaming boiled leather belt. Technically, communism works on the exaqct same priciples. Instead of recieving pay for what they've earned, everyone gets the exact same pay no matter what, because everyone is "equal." in point of fact, communism places people in designated jobs regardless of thier intelligence or skills. if someone had the capacity to be a doctor or lawyer, but the government placed them as a farmer, there were no free choices or arguments. that was that and no one could question it. at the same time geuss what? someone who should have been a cook ends up being forced to be a doctor because that's his designated position. is that intelligent? logical? productive? tell me, am i missing a piece of the puzzle? i'm fairly certain that these are the main principles of communism: equal pay, equal status, equal opportunities (as in no one is granted or denied choices because the choice is made for them).

Human nature is that way. Some people are snobs and will always think they are better than others.
Why does communism always become corrupt?
Because it is a weak system and with a central government having to control the equality then that defeats the purpose.
True communism is with no government. Everyone knows and are equal. Disputes would not have to be handled. Then it turns into an anarchy because it's human nature that ruins everything.
It is impossible for humans to do this, in our nature there is always someone out there who wants power.
And everything he said is true. Communism works only in one circumstance: when a tryanical dictator assumes rule with an iron fist and makes every else succumb to communism. It doesn't make for a prosperous or thriving, or happy for that matter, country.
My opinion is fact.
