It's seems here on the politic board here on newgrounds, all of us ( and I do mean all of us ) like to get up our own asses and be real preachy. We never really get anywhere, as in we can have a topic that goes on for 22 pages but we never really learn anything from each other.
We just bitch back and fourth completely unwilling to even consider the opposition's point of view and behind our keyboard with the power of high speed internet and Google we think we know it all and there is no logical reason why anybody would ever disagree with us.
But do you any of you see what where becoming? The very politicians that we loath and hate ourselves. The Conservative bible beaters or the Liberal pussies that we all hate, and where prepared to do dick about it. And as 90's after school special as it sounds, we are the future and the future is pretty much here.
Now I know that this topic is going to slowly sink to the bottom of the page and eventually get lost in the bowels that is the NG BBS because none of you have the balls to admit what pompous jackasses you are. ( myself included) , but here's my question.
What do any of you plan to do to change anything you don't like about your country?

You are quite right, many of us are stubborn and unwilling to listen, and all of us have moments when we refuse to listen, however, I must say that this is in my opinion the most intelligent portion of all the NG BBS. Sadly the numbers here in comparison to lets say that of the general forum are quite few. To answer the question. I guess that would depend on just how much I love my country now wouldn't it. I'l save that for another topic.

I'd like to organize. But finding others for my cause is a difficult feat indeed.

I do try to listen, but some people I don't feel are as concise as others. Maybe it's only the polemics I can understand, the middlemen can be difficult. And you've got to admit that this seems like the most intelligent forum - sometimes you don't think you can get away with how mediocre your knowledge is. I'm genuinely interested most of the time, and some people are very good at articulating an argument and fun to read. And some people provoke fun responses a lot of the time. It's a good mix.
Good to read opinions on current affairs. Maybe there's a better forum for my purposes elsewhere, who knows.
I want the government to all go out and take drugs and shag some hookers and there should be some reality TV show involving politicians too, arguing about shit and getting pissed off and things becoming a big deal, yeaaaah TV

First off, I'd like to say that I am neither a liberal pussie or a bible beating conservative. I'm a liberal badass.

You see, that all depends on where life leads me. Could I end up as a policticion, a president even? It's certainly possible, although not something I'd ever promise. What I do know is that I will do what I can to capture the hearts and the minds of both our country and elsewhere, getting them to think more in the way that I think as right, and being the infallible asshole that I am, that's the absolute best thing for the world, right?

I like reading everything that gets posted though, you often can learn something as long as your not wearing blinders.

I agree there are some really cool people who post things that are fun to read and actually make a point, but my problem is we really don't get anywhere no matter what the scale. I mean never have a read an argument on this BBS and said "Ya know what, there right I didn't from that point of view." It's all just arguing but we call it debating. I mean in America this biggest load of bullshit that any politician can feed us is this myth of bi-partisanship .
I'll be my right nut that I will never hear either of these sentences in my lifetime.
"Mr. Conservative I'd like to redact what I said earlier because now that I've become more informed on the subject I agree with your particular course of action.
"Mr. Liberal I'd like to redact what I said earlier because now that I've become more informed on the subject I agree with your particular course of action.
And it's pathetic that grown intelligent highly educated adults can't come to a reasonable conclusion between each other. Rash decisions, party politics and special interest groups are what fuels American politics and I believe that is what needs to change. There are certain ways to deal with every situation and picking a side before you even know the specifics is just for lack of better term dumb.

Agreed. More often than not I exaggerate or talk blatant trash for a laugh but at the end of the day I think it's important that we all read the better written posts without as you say blinders on. The most important thing really, is that if we feel passionate about something we write it concisely and without putting other people down or stroking our ego so that they can accept or at least understand our perspective rather than refute it out of disdain. If we all simply abided by some simple etiquette we could really learn a lot from each other. We might not necessarily be enlightened on some issues but at least we can gain an understanding of how other people understand it.

the only way I have ever grown intellectually is to admit that I am wrong and adopt a different view based off of newer information. EVER. that's the same with anybody, really; anyone too stubborn to even consider a dissenting view can never change.
and when you are stagnant, you don't grow. there are always new arguments, always new facts, always new studies that contradict what we believe - it is our own stubborn pride that contorts new arguments to defend our old belief systems which we so readily abided by. it is why I am agnostic, it is why I hold no political affliations (though I lean left and libertarian); it is why I question everything, from every perspective before I hold place true conviction on ANY decision.
don't even get me started on party politics. while I realize that however they may change, parties will always exist because of strength in numbers and soltitude in bond, they will never again serve the people. they are corporate monopolies that serve themselves. there are no more paleoconservatives or neoconservatives, no more progressive democrats or libertarian democrats; there are only democrats and republicans, and the fight between them in order to gain money and power. the political system in america seems to be dissolving.
I do not want to enter politics - simply because when you believe as I believe, you would never get elected to any serious office. I do have hopes of finding my way in political commentary or journalism, whether it be satrical or serious. I think it'd be the greatest way to lend my voice in helping influence the way we think, helping promote a new wave of political thought though.
of course, that's just ambition. I find myself to be more ambitious than say - anyone. because in my life, any ambition I've worked for - I've been able to meet. my only fear? that I've met it as a big fish in a small pond.

I've been involved with nonprofits for a few years now. Right now, I work for an association management firm that handles the office end of several associations that do a lot of legislative and lobbying work. While I don't actively lobby, I do help shape the legislative agenda of these organizations as well as write articles (albeit sometimes under the name of my boss) for several publications to inform the respective membership bases on what's going on with issues that concern them.
Of course, these associations are all just statewide, so I'm not really doing anything federally, but state government has a lot more interaction in my life than the federal government. Ideally, though, I'd like to get more into the lobbying side and start doing some of that work. I think I'd be pretty good at it.
Think you're pretty clever...

I've changed my opinions based on compelling arguments before. I don't see why everyone else has such a huge problem with it.

because none of you have the balls to admit what pompous jackasses you are
I resent that.....
I've stated numerous times I'm a giant prick, I just maintain I'm a prick with a purpose.....
Anyways, two views of mine that have changed over my time here:
1.) Gun control sounds nice, but doesn't actually solve problems, and can even complicate them when improperly applied.
2.) It's better to assume something/someone written/writing on the internet is shit until it/he/she proves otherwise than vice versa.
there's probably others, but I don't have a firm grasp of all my posts from over the years.
As far as your example goes:
There have been several people fighting that point for a LONG time now. Despite the fact that the 4 current religion threads cover the entire paradigm of religion topics, and overlap frequently, there's disagreement over whether or not there should be Official Religion Threads like the OBT.
Since the Regulars couldn't get anything accomplished on their own, we just decided to create our own little thread to rise above the cesspool of idiocy and dick-waving that occurs in religion threads otherwise. Thus, power to the people. Unwritten rule there being anyone looking to fight or who isn't posting intelligently gets ignored universally. As you can see, it's the ONLY religion thread almost 100% flame free.
As far as your question goes:
What do any of you plan to do to change anything you don't like about your country?
My friends and I started a non-profit organization for precisely that purpose. Our talents are meager, but we get hired by other NPOs and hospitals and people to do dance performances. We also put on charity events every once in a while (when we have the funds to do so) and donate the proceeds to XYZ charity.
And if our website wasn't down and being redesigned right now, I'd have a website for you that actually worked......
Speaking of, anyone know any cheap web design programs? We used some crappy one when we originally made our website, and it only works on IE. It has problems working on everything else, Safari, Mozilla, etc etc.....
