I seriously think everybody's first car should be an old klunker.

Wait, you're turning sixteen in a few months, and you still haven't received a permit or received any bit of drivers ed yet?

I don't have a car yet,but you can't really expect to have a bad ass car as your first car. Although when I do get one I plan on making it pretty decent, I wouldn't want it to be all crappy and breaking down on me everywhere I go. Besides gas is expensive too, so how are you planning to pay for that if your not gona work?

Mine's worth about $1500 and it works fine ('97 Dodge Intrepid). So fork up a few hundred more dollars and you can buy a fabulous piece of crap like mine!

Man, why do you guys pay so much for your cars? Most I've spent on a car is $650 for a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GT, which happens to be my current car.

Its good to have a crappy car. No one will steal stuff from it. Also, the only thing i worry about is having a working engine and having some decent rims. Maybe you can customize your interior. Just make sure this car is not too trashy. I am so glad I got a used car for my first. I know so many rich spoiled kids who get a new car and crash them or destroy them. When you get older you can always get yourself a bad ass ride. I am still waiting for another year until I get a sweet ass ride. I plan to save at least 15,000 dollars for my next car.

Again, it was a birthday gift (I'm a lucky bastard I know). And a lot of the cars you guys mentioned are, in my opinion, decent cars.

This is mostly true but I dont care about rims at all. If its a crap car, why even bother with the rims. Id much rather have a decent sound system.

When I got my license I was given an old hand-me-down car that we used to use before my dad replaced it.

I also got the insurance, licensing and headaches along with it. And gas costs.

My first and current car was a 98 civic purchased for 2800. All money which I earned working a crappy after school job. With all the road trips, memories, and freedom I'd say it was definitely worth it. Also gives you a sense of accomplishment after such hard work.

I have a marvelous 1997 Subaru Legacy wagon that I really should get rid of. One of the alloy wheels was damaged beyond repair so I have a mismatched wheel, the front sunroof leaks, it's slow, it's an automatic, the thing is worthless and I rarely drive it as I live 200 metres from Campus.
