Nice fish! Could do with some shading and, ofcourse, a background. But it's still a work in progress, so I'm curious as to how it will turn out. Good luck.

I would have had it sketched out by now, but I'm torn between two ideas. The first, the fake coral in the background of the picture I took, would be easier but boring. On the other hand, I could make it look like the fish is flying over land. I like the second better, but my teacher is generally resistant to projects that aren't based in reality.

The assignment was to make an abstract painting. I chose a simple course of action: abstraction through simplification. Because of that, I'm not sure how much shading I'll be doing. I really want to do more shading; I really hate the lack of depth, but I have a feeling that I'll be told that it is too realistic. I really hate having to tiptoe between what my teacher will pass and what I want to do.

Look at that sky. It's a very nice sky.
I feel like I fucked up the background, but I can't do anything about that tonight. Woohoo for wet water color.

By the way, the fish is banking in the air.

i can relate with ya on hating to please the teacher. remember though, its your vision, (not what you think someone else want you to do) that will cause the interest to bring it to life.
for awhile there i was submitting 2 versions of alot of projects. that initiative carried me a long way. 8]

Another project for school; we had to incorporate pointillism, impressionism, realism, and cubism in a mostly equal amount. Fun stuff.

I really hate self portraits. I feel like a massive narcissist when I make them.

But then I'd have mirrors everywhere, and reflective surfaces usually break when I look at them.

I stopped counting at 54 years of bad luck.

And many, many dots later, I'm pretty much done. I'll have to touch it up some more tomorrow when I have paint that isn't dried to the tray.

Well I'm back in drawing class, and our first project is a self portrait. It's not much to look at right now.

Sorry about the quality. Crappy camera is crappy.

Damn you and your interesting looking self portraits!
First you have the cool spinny, different styles one, now you're a puzzle.

note to self, according to spell check, spinny is not a word...

Maybe the next one I make will be black and white, and I'll look kinda nerdy and... Aww shit. I already did that.

It lies; mine says it's fine.

A wee bit of homework from last week.

Evidently my new sketchbook is too big for my scanner. Who knew?

what I think you did here; is move your head while drawing...
this is perfectly natural but disastrous if your drawing from life.
You wanted to get a good look at the label so you lowered your head... that results in a picture with different perspectives.

I believe Picasso actually applied this as a technique... he would draw all sides of a vase on one flat canvas... I believe that is what landed the weird faces... although I could be wrong on that last one.

You wouldn't have know this, so I should have clarified: we were supposed to reproduce this ad. I just kinda failed a bit.

Also, we were working from a crappy copy of that ad from a magazine.

ah... well there goes my clever essay on picasso...
anyways the picture looks like it has different perspectives to it.
Now I know they are probably telling you that you should do everything freehand (without a ruler)... so maybe pay extra attention to it next time.

those things just are so noticable to the human eye... it really sucks.
