JERUSALEM (AFP) - A four-year-old girl was left behind at Israel's Ben Gurion international airport on Sunday as her mother, father and four siblings rushed to catch a flight to Paris, police said.

"I saw a little girl in tears. She was looking for her parents," a policewoman told reporters.

"Luckily she was able to give me her name. I grabbed her and ran to the gates but it was too late," the plane had just taken off, she said.

According to police, the girl's parents only realised she was missing when the pilot of the plane informed them just as the aircraft was taking off.

"It is usual that travellers in a rush forget their luggage but not a child. This never happens," a police official said.

The incident was a stark reminder of the US box office hit "Home Alone" in which a little boy was accidentally left alone as his family rushed to the airport and flew to Paris for a Christmas holiday.

But unlike the movie, there was a happy ending for the little girl who was able to join her parents. She was flown to Paris on the next flight out accompanied by a flight attendant.

The forgetful parents will be interrogated by the authorities upon their return home and risk being indicted for negligence, police said.

5 kids. Maybe this is just another sign that breeding liters of children isn't a good thing.

Obviously referring to the secret ending in which he dies of cancer.

That's incredibly stupid and irresponsible. How on earth can you forget your own child? Like the article said, it's understandable to forget your own luggage. But it can't be that easy to forget your own kid. I don't know if they were in a huge massive rush or they just have severely bad memory.

Heh, oh well. I bet the kids gonna get plenty of attention from her family after this. Probably too much actually.

The parents had four other kids to keep track of. It's a fairly understandable mistake. If she were an only child though it would be a different story.

Home Alone had a happy ending. His family came home, and he was responsible for capturing burglars. He also had a lot of fun with the house to himself and his crazy burglar-escaping traps and tricks.

Same thing in Home Alone 2. He had all sorts of fun, and eventually was reunited wit his family. He also saved a toy store, got some free stuff, and made friends with the crazy bird woman in the park. And yet again put the burglars in jail.

Both of those had much happier endings than this situation. She got left in an airport, and didn't even get to do anything fun. Her only reward was to be given back to her neglectful parents. Whoever wrote that story needs to get their facts straight.

Do you know how to get a coon out of a cheese box?

Still just seems a little irresponsible to forget about one of your kids, regardless if you have four or not.

Think this kid might have abandonment issues when she gets older.
