It's summer and everyone's got free time on their hands to make flash games and animations. It has been suggested to make this thread to avoid too much thread spam on the flash forum and allow other people to have a chance to show their work.

show us what you're working on, and feel free to provide feedback on other people's work

It's about time someone made this thread!

What I'm working on is a sort of novelty game. I'm using Away3D to make a labyrinth game based upon the geometrical shape of a "Torus," or ring. I've made ball movement, rotation, walls, and camera movement. What I'm currently working on is collision detection between objects, but I'm a bit stuck on that... I don't know how I should go about making a collision detection, whether by a field or by individual checks every frame, or whether any collision detection would be accurate enough. The current build of Away3D is 2.1; it has no hitTest class.

Lovely. Haha.

This is a game sprite I began making a few months ago but left, and now am back on it. I finished the body yesterday (NOTE - it's just the key frames right now, it needs to be filled in so ignore the jumpyness of it) and in four hours time I hope to have the legs completed.

As you can see the walk cycle is at an odd angle. Usually when I make a walk cycle i'll just jump straight in, but this one requires a bit more planning. Now I am at the legs I need to judge whether they are set up right for me to begin animating them.

So here's some queries to think about while you see the walk cycle:
- are the feet wide enough apart? His walk is meant to be slack and the legs are a little wide because of that, but too wide?
- Do you like the flow of the body? I wanted it to look like his torso was moving about a bit. Its timid but I like it.
- Does the position of his legs/feet look correct? Something looks off to me, but I can't tell. Maybe when it's done all will be cool but for now I can't tell.

Hey please zoom in and have a closer look if you don't mind.

Cheers for any replies.

the right leg of the one on the left looks like it moves less than the other leg.. but maybe it's just me. you need to see at what speed a character is moving before you can truly judge the walk cycle, but it actually looks really good considering it's from a hard angle.

NoDopeTrooper that's a nice screenshot. It looks like it would make a very nice background. Is that supposed to be a crying smiley on the building by anychance?

Blackfang, I like it - It looks very complete - like you've covered all grounds. You've got the user-interface bit all full, the level design wide and colourful - there's no white canvas to be seen.

Cheers. Yeah I think you are right about the leg moving slower. Ive messed with it and worked on it more, although it still does a little.

Just thinking about it right, I really wish that I could animate completely unique and animated walk cycles. This guy i'm animating for example, has a fairly mundane walk cycle - but that's good here, it's a walk cycle for a game so it should be simple enough to not distract the viewer from the game too much. But i'd like to be able to animate wacky walk cycles though, like guys with a pimp limp - like chav's do often.

Here's an improved version for anybody interested.

El-Presidente, that looks like it could be pretty fun. You plan to make it a full game, or was it just for learning/experimenting purposes?

Mogly, that looks good. However, maybe it's because of the choppiness, but I can't help but think that it looks more like the guy is shufflng. Maybe that's the intention though. His feet only look slightly lifted for 1 frame when they're at the back, and then they go back to the horizontal position. Perhaps you're trying to make it appear as shuffling, or it'll look clearer with more frames.

As for myself, I'm working on Time Assault 2 (first one in my profile), and it's nearing completion. Just needs some menus and touch-ups, and some small additional changes from me. It also needs a fair bit of coding, but that's not my department :P I like the look of this tree right now. Any thoughts?

Very nice looking tree. No complaints about it. I like how in Time Assault the background changes as it goes on. You could build on that, and have shadows appear on the tree as it gets later, just as a subtle effect.

Hang on - heres' something a little more rediculous. You could have it so as time passes, the instrument the clock is in changes. As it gets old with time the tree withers and something else takes its place. Err, like a building. Then that crumbles and the clock is now inserted into the side of a spaceship. You see..? Yeah. But er, that's a bit over the top.

I liked that game, its the sort of random game setup that is custom to NG & the internet & free games. The sort of game that fits right in at NG :)

I quite like that you noticed it looks like he's shuffling. That's cool - he is supposed to be walking in a pretty laid back way. Just shuffling 'round the supermarket - stealing him some goods.

I've worked on it a little more and it's much more complete now. However, i'll show two copies because the more finished one, has only half the inbetweens' filled in and therefore looks odd. Infact it doesn't look right and scared me a bit, but hopefully that's just 'cus it aint done.

- Less complete - more accurate (look at this one)
- More complete - more awkward

If anybody wants to make this with me then please PM me.

Since the reg lounge is now locked every weekend, I thought it would be a good idea to bump this thread. We are all supposed to be productive during this time, so it would be a good idea to post your productiveness here. Random chit-chat with other regs will not be tolerated though, and all users who use this for a different purpose than flash and productive work will be eaten alive.

If you've already made a thread about the movie or if you repeatedly whore a link to your flash / somewhere about your Flash, don't post in here about it. That's to Simbaa and Blackfang...by the way.

Been working lightly on some hank sprites.. realistically dont think itll make it to madness day but im workin on it anyway.

The fact that Hank has no arms made it a bit of a different environment for me to animate, took a bit of tries to get into that mindset. In that respect I'm pleased to be experimenting with the limbless style.

I went ahead and made him legs however, I felt like i didnt want to totally rip Krinkels.

I've done a few things nothing really to call a flash movie or game just a few of frame by frame animations and a multimedia demo reel for school. I'm Hoping to come up with something more presentable to submit to Newgrounds.

animation 1
animation 2
Demo reel

Thanks man, so glad someone's done this, great idea.
Now finally I don't look like a attention grabbing whore, just a guy who wants his preview flash work criticized. :)

Ok, before I give the link, I'll let you know that it IS a stick flash, but don't just rate it just knowing that! I'm not exactly showcasing my animating skills in this, its just a bit of fun. There's also a lot still to go on the actual animation, as well as the other parts of it. Couple more easter eggs I have to do... just for the fun of it :P
Also, Its pretty much the first ever flash i've done, that I haven't just blown off halfway when another good idea has popped into my head.
Yeah, so, hope you like it, criticism wanted!

Low MB version (No sound 'cept for movie, not fully updated)

Couldn't get the fucking high MB version, which pissed me off >:(
That has all the songs in it, the GOOD preloader, all the pics updated, and I've done quite a bit more on the animation. If you know a good, high MB uploader, I'd love to hear it!
Swfup died ages ago, Spamtheweb's too small, and the rest don't allow online viewing!

Oh, and I need some help with the trophies section. If NG can't help me, my friend, who's also pretty much my flash mentor, will. But if I can get help here, hey! Thats great! And if you're in it for the credit, I usually always put people who help me in the credits :P
I was just wondering, how do I make trophies work? Say, if someone finds an easter egg, they get a special trophy? Is there a specific AS to it, or is it some crazy autosave AS?
Help on this would be much appreciated, not sure if I explained it clearly enough, sorry.

Anyway, whaddya think?
