That's why you just need to have all the people contribute to the story together. Make a forums topic, everyone post an idea, or a word that would be included somehow, then everyone shapes the story together.

i attempted to do this with dailytoon 400 and am currently attempting to do it again with a different collab.

and i agree, NG needs more organized collabs that follow some sort of storyline or narrative even if its vague. luis seems to be the only collab organizer on here who has done anything like that. we need more collabs like "pass my flash" and less mindless music videos

tom was talking about the next mega collab being based on a totally original idea. why not a collab that follows a storyline and isn't just a series of videogame jokes that only nerds understand? i would say splitting up the workload would be the best way to make something really worthwhile. you have the best writers working on the script and storyboard, the best audio artists working on the sound effects and music, the best animators doing the artwork, etc.

that method could end up producing a really high quality short film, if you chose the right people. but in order for it to work, like mindchamber said, you'd have to have one single director orchestrating everything. i'd like to think there are at least some artists on this site who are willing to leave their egos at the door for the better of the whole, but thats probably a little too idealistic. if the staff tried to organize something like that though, i'd sure as fuck be interested.

i wish i could say i'm surprised

hopefully this speech inspires what few actual artists are left on this site to get together and bring some magic to this dull and listless industry

I thought the exact same thing, theres so few people responding to such an inspiring talk, i thought it was great.
I dont think the animation industry is dull and listless, sure, there are quite a few reeaaally crap animated shows at the moment, but theres so much good stuff coming out. Besides, if i learnt anything from Ralph Bakshi's speech, its that we can't allow ourselves to be uninspired by other peoples work, or anything.

I'm studying animation at the moment, i'm in my last year, i am going to move to england for a few months next year, while working on some animation projects, then return to australia and do what Ralph had said and live on what i have while working with a few others on some bigger productions.
i dont see the greatness of getting a job with a big animation company, working on someone elses big ideas, sure the product will probably be of amazing quality, but i'd rather be doing my own thing.

Yeah, that is really inspiring, but the other guy's speech was more flash-centric. Oh well, they're both really good.

Thanks for the update Tom!

maybe a good way to make everyone feel involved would be to vote on a set of stories and everyone gets a chance to chime in one what excites them, and once a story is settled on things can move forward. Still there would be other issues to over come, like, aesthetics. Like you said, everyone would obviously want to do it in their style, or try to be outrageously abstract for the sake of standing out.
I would definitely want people who are more serious about animation, and not look at it as a hobby and to be able look at this as a training exercise as what it would take to work in a full time studio, and work as a team. Thats very hard.

Half the kids here saw their first adult joke on newgrounds, so they have nothing to contribute.

I haven't said much because he isnt saying anything we don't already know, but I just to lazy to admit.

I grew up on Bakshi, (twisted parents) everything he has said AND done has been totally inspirational.
