Userpages suggestion

Something that would be awesome for the user profiles, a personal player that has your #1 favorite song from the audio portal. I told to some of my friends and they thought it was a great idea.

What do you think guys?

I don't think it's such a good idea, since not everyone likes the same music, it may be annoying for some people.
Maybe optional?

Yes. And forgot to say, the player doesn't start playing itself, you must press the play button, because, as you said, it would become annoying for some people.

OOOR, It could be like an account option... You either choose (Play automatically/manually), some people will be too lazy to scroll down and play the music...

Oh and there is a problem but i don't know if I'm right or wrong, when browsing a member's page on Newgrounds, when you move from an area to an area, it opens a new page (if you didn't really understand, it means that on Newgrounds you don't stay on the same address while browsing inside it), which will cause the music to refresh, which will be very annoying, EXCEPT if the Newgrounds staff put sometime into making a member's account page doesn't open a new page but rather changes some of the content in the page...

I have to agree with this part.

But also, it sounds like a very good idea, in fact, I wouldnt mind having it.

I like the idea as long as it doesn't auto play, you should have a choice to put in the AP number to play, not just you're favourite so you could show you're own etc.

Exactly, it should be that you get to choose an specific song to play. Also, I think it would be better if having it auto-play wasn't an option at all, since some people could abuse this and upload some annoying bullshit on purpose.

Hmm... I think I heard this kind of suggestion from another person asking Tom. They wanted to know if they could have some sort of flash on their page, and that it could make userpages more exciting.

Alas, Tom said no, for some reason or another [I can't really remember] and that it will probably never happen.

My view on this subject would be that it might be nice to have, but a lot of people might get pissed because maybe there would be a whole lot of people that like metal, and they like classical. Who knows?

But, yeah, it was a pretty good idea.

TBH, I don't think the staff would ever make the Autoplay an option if this was implemented, just like with the video embedding feature. NSFW audio and video could prove to be a massive problem for people casually visiting someone's userpage at work.

People should be allowed to choose what they see and listen to, and when they do it, and I think the staff are sympathetic to that.

Anyway, nice idea. Who knows if it will be implemented or not? Perhaps it's already on the staff's list of things they have to fix / add onto the site. Just in case it isn't though, I'd advise the OP to bookmark this thread for if a Newgrounds Evolution Mk 3 thread is ever made -- for easier linkage.

I suppose it could be considered a nice idea, but I'm not really sure of the point or usefulness. Why would you want a player for your favorite song on your userpage? I would think it would be a more useful feature for audio artists trying to show off their own work, rather than regular users showing off what they happen to like.

If it's your favorite song, then you've probably downloaded it to your computer and can listen to it through itunes or Windows media player or whatever at any time; you don't need any kind of player on your userpage for that.

And if you're trying to show off your favorite song to others to listen to, then your favorite audio is already linked right on your userpage if anyone wants to listen.

Personally, I don't see much use for the feature or any real need for it to be added. I suppose it integrates the audio portal a little, but not really to much more of an extent as it is now (linking to your favorite audio). And since you'd have to change the way userpages are viewed (but not having to go to new pages to see different content of the userpage, as another user already pointed out), it would probably require quite a bit of work for such a small addition.

I wanted to embed the Playlist music lists, but that would be VERY MySpace-ish. So, if it's from the AP, I guess it's cool. And there's been some talk over a flash showcase too. This would be alright, I guess.

I don't actualy like this idea, it just seems away from the minimal aspect the userpage holds, it is there to show information regarding you. Like myspace people use content created by other users to express their individuality, wich doesn't make sence. So that is why I am against it.

You're personal favorite audio by everyone else and you're personal favorite audio of your own.

I do have to admit that it would be pretty cool if people listened to my theme song while they were visiting my userpage.

I thought the whole video thing would be cool too though, but I took my video down only after a week or two of having it up. I like to keep it simple on my blog, but music is a nice addition, but as long as it's only music coming from the audio portal.

Hmm at first I thought this would be a pretty nice idea. It could be pretty cool to have some cool background-song when people visit your page and it´s another good chance for audio artists to promote their work.

But on second thought I don´t think it will turn out to be all that great. I´m a member of some site which does have this feature in userprofiles and although you might think it´s cool to show other people what kind of music you like, I noticed that whenever I visit someone else´s page I immediatly turn the music off if it has any. Mostly because I rarely ever like the songs that other people upload, but also because I´m usually listening to some music myself already.

I think that a lot of people here would also think it´s cool at first, but in the end a whole lot of people would probably turn it off cause it´s just gonna be an annoyance. And also, as mentioned above, it´s very likely that some people are gonna upload the most awful song that they can find in the audio portal just to piss people off.

So I´m against this idea.

What if we do add a JS that does change the song picture (picture, genre, title and that information) to a little player, and then if you want you can click a button there to go to the real page? This would be nice....
