I have been pondering this idea for a few weeks, and I have come to a conclusion that cheerleading,is not a sport,or not much of one any way.
It started about a year ago when I noticed cheerleading was growing singnificantly in my school, after talking to a few cheerleaders,I found that it required no real endurance, strategy or much physical involvement. When you think about all it is a series of dance moves, jumps and catches.
Considering Cheerleading is nothing more then "Cheering on" a sport like basketball or football,so at the best it should be noticed as a semi-sport.Cheerleaders have pratice like any other sport, but they train for a few weeks, for a four or five minute show, followed by a occasional chant or dance thoughout the rest of the game. While a basketball player would train every day for a non-stop three hour game.
Wrestling Is a horrible sport between two men in skimpy leotards, grabing one another's swetie bodys, pining them down, all just to see a row of six or seven cheerleaders stand up and go "YAY!" and clap there hands,Wrestling Cheerleaders are the lazyiest "Athletes." That I have ever seen.
As for Male cheerleading, that does not seem so bad looking up girls skirts, grabing there butt to throw them in the air, ect. The only trade off is dancing like a homo.My old school only had one male cheerleader, but he was gay so it kinda ruined the point of being a male cheerleader.
When I would question a cheerleader about it being a sport,Right away they would flip-out on a yelling fit,no matter what I said,I always got screemed at for just useing "Sport" and "Cheerleader" in the same sentence.(Like they knew it was not a sport.)
So sure all guys like to look at thefemale cheerleaders, but Is jumping around while yelling "GO TEAM!" really a sport?
Also for any Cheerleaders who I offended by writing this, you have no idea how much I really dont care.

So, like, you're jealous of the cheerleaders then? You know you want to be lifted up by one of those man-girls.

I consider bowling a sport, beacuse you have to have strength to aim and throw the ball, you have to plan where the ball will roll, ect.Bowling atleast requires mental involement so yes Bowling is a sport.

Not jealous, just confused on why people classify it as a sport, when it requires really no thinking and minimal physical endurance.

Alcoholsim is an addiction...one which can be solved..
It's the bodies phycological need for alcohol... not a disease such as lepracy.
And no.... cheerleading is also not a sport

Ditto.
Also, I never really thought of it. I always figured it was a kind of an annoing physical club that involves peppy girls (ugh), looking up dresses, and dead furry creatures they fling around like a Wiimote.
Humanity's error.

Cheerleaders are just there to cancel out the gayness of several of large sweaty men in tights piling on top of eachother. And so women won't bitch about being left out of sports, instead they get to do what they do best - wear close to nothing and jump around screaming stupid shit.

Wrestling is a sport, and when I say that I mean Olympic Style Wrestling, not WWE.

Male cheerleaders are just fucking creepy, that's just it.
When I would question a cheerleader about it being a sport,Right away they would flip-out on a yelling fit,no matter what I said,I always got screemed at for just useing "Sport" and "Cheerleader" in the same sentence.(Like they knew it was not a sport.)
So would people who play Chess as a sport.

Sport- Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
Sounds like cheerleading is a sport to me.

I don't see chearleading as a REAL sport, i mean come on. Why do all the guys watching football wait for halftime? No, not pee breaks, but the chicks in tight shirts, and short skirts jumpin up into the air and doin flips to entertain them. Thats like ur saying being a Hooters girl is a sport ;p

This could really be argued both ways. If a group of cheerleaders you see at a game is literally jumping up and down doing chants, then that's not a sport. If you get a really decent team of cheerleaders who do flips and basket tosses and all that stuff, then yes. It then turns into gymnastics of sorts, which is definately counted as sports.

Are you fucking kidding? I bet your ass wouldn't last a day on your schools wrestling team. Do you have any idea how much mental and physical strength it takes to be a wrestler?
Oh wait of course you aren't one.

Competitive cheerleading is a sport however.
And that is part of cheerleading.
Way to go.
