After watching the European Commercial of Ford Kuga, it made me think. Why do we keep making objects like they look now?

A mailbox, a trash can, a car..

Ofcourse they come in different size and color. But why hasn't anyone made drastic design changes (yet)?

Because if someone made a mailbox that looked like a car it would be about 300 times bigger than it needed to be and no-one would know what the fuck it was.

people are naturally adverse to change

Think about this; think about how stupid the average person is, and then realize that half of them are stupider than that.

That, and why would you bother changing something when it works perfectly fine as it is.

They aren't rules, a mailbox just has to be a durable container for mail so that's what it is, a car has to be aerodynamic and look appealing to buyers so it is.

That's exactly how people who'll never invent something think..

A caveman thought painting with his finger is top of the line. Do you?

I've seen a mailbox that looked like a toilet, and yes, you drop letters down the hole and 'flush' them where a motor sends them into the area at the back.

Well that depends on what the caveman is painting, the surface he's painting it onto and several other variables.

I'm a very strong proponent of change however I believe that change should always be related to function so if changing an object does not include the functionality of that object (this also includes aesthetics) then I will generally be skeptical as to the reasoning for the proposed change.

They've made different mailboxes. Haven't you seen those ones that are one solid object and rotted into the ground so people can't knock the tops off with baseball bats?
