It's better to get a bit of sleep then none at all, but if you're fully awake now, go for it.
Actually, it's harder; for me at least.
Often times I will stay up longer than I should. I've attempted minimal sleep and no sleep at all, and nearly 100% of the time, not getting sleep at all is better.
Once you fall asleep, your body attempts to rest. If that process is interrupted, especially if the process has only gone on for a short period of time, it will be hard to get up. Once you are awake, your body will try to keep you at rest, seeing as you are deprived.
Not falling asleep, however, skips the process entirely. Instead, (at least for me) adrenaline kicks in, and I get to a stage where I don't feel tired at all. I've gone to work on many occasion on zero hours of sleep and feel perfectly fine. (in fact, feeling rather well). However, once I attempt sleep, it's as if I pass out and wake up several hours later.
I think I need at least 0 hours/ 3+ hours to feel fine the next day. If I attempt sleep for 1-3 hours, I will feel like shit.
That's just me, however.
