Before I begin, let me just say there is NO remake coming out.

Lately there have been rumours about a remake of Final Fantasy VII in the works, it has cropped up every now and again with the 2005 tech demo. But in the past couple of days it was confirmed as false.

What if it was true? First of all there would be a large chance it would be a PS3 exclusive because Sony published the original but that isn't always the plan. Remember Ninja Gaiden?

OK so lets fast forward to when it is released and there is no alternate version for the Xbox 360/Wii/PSP/DS. How many PS3s would be sold? I know a lot aren't fans of FFVII in particular or the Final Fantasy series at all. But can you doubt how much it would sell? There's a lot of fanboys out there that have been waiting for this day.

I would think it would help shift enough PS3s to outsell the Xbox 360 and grow ever closer to the Wii's colossal amount of units sold.

Probably about 4 times the population of Earth.

Aliens need JRPGs as well, you know.

To add fuel to the fire, there's another strong rumour floating around that we'll soon be seeing the original FFVII on PSN in the next few months.

I'm guessing if the take-up is strong, they may well consider it...

Yeah, PS3 would have a good year, sadly that is not going to happen.

I heard that too.

I think it was said it was going on the XBLA, that seems a little impossible.

Well since we're speaking in hypotheticals, I think that we all know that Square-Enix would push the release on at least both the 360 and the PS3, and perhaps even, in this case, the Wii.

I can perceive many gamers saying "it's just a remake", as well as many others saying "OMG I WANNA CREEM MY PANTS AT TEH GAYEST VILLEN EVER, SEPHILOVEROTH" and I can imagine those who haven't played it before taking the opportunity.

It would sell well enough. It wouldn't push the noticeable purchase of new consoles, though. And I don't think it'd sell anywhere close to "popular" games like Gaylo 3, GTA4, SSBB, etc.

A lot of people don't even have that much faith in square-enix as a company anymore.

I can just barely remember the last time they produced a decent game.
It's a shame because, respectively, they had some of the best games on the SNES as Squaresoft and Enix.

That said, pertaining to the remake itself, there'd be some kind of add-on into the story, maybe an alternate ending even, but ultimately it's just be a port of the last game with new graphics. If they actually want it to sell, changing gameplay would only hurt them IMO.

Ultimately, not worth it. And that's probably why they're not pushing it.
You might argue that it is worth it, that plenty of people would buy it, it was a good game originally, etc.

But there are two things to consider. First, plenty of people didn't like FF7, as did plenty of people jizz in their pants over how "awesome" of a storyline and game it is. And secondly, once they start porting old versions of there games with new graphics, a lot of people might lose respect for the company. How long can one milk one game concept and storyline?

If you've just read my post realize there's a 93.7% that it's true.

I'm not trying to be a troll or anything, but I honestly can't see why so many love FF7. I played the first 5 minutes of it a while back, and it didn't seem like anything special to me.

And don't get me started on the people who actually cried when Aeris got killed. That was pathetic. I mean, it's only a character made up of polygons for goodness sake.

You fail to realize that Sony wouldn't be able to keep FFVII exclusive.

It wouldn't be smart for Square to keep it PS3 exclusive, just like FF13.

I'm going to guess double of what Metal Gear Solid 4 did for the PS3

The difference is, Aeris's death was not sad.

It's not like you never saw it coming. Admit it.

Now Gray Fox, that was one sad death.

well if you played the game after you heard about that which was a very good possibility since no one shuts up about it it is pretty sad. I knew it would happen but not when but if they were going to remake the game they would have done it long ago and they already have ported some of their older games to the playstation with better graphics.

Aeris was around for one game.
Aeris had sad music accompanying her death.
Sephiroth came out of nowhere and stabbed her. Without a struggle.

Gray Fox was around since the beginning of the Metal Gear saga, you had fought him in every game.
Gray Fox lost an arm, had genuine emotion in his voice, and cheesey, but emotional speeches.
Liquid had just finished fighting Snake, he cut off Gray Fox's arm with a laser, and crushed Gray Fox with Metal Gear Rex. Gray Fox went out fighting.

Then again, you can't really compare a Flowergirl to a Cold-Blooded Soldier who isn't entirely human.

I think that a game base the " Advent Children Universe" would be cooler.

Besides Sony needs to get there shit together. I don't recall it being a good thing when people are clamoring over a possible remake then actually playing a new game.

I doubt it. It wouldn't fit SE's business strategy at all. It makes much more sense to make a DS/PSP version. If they made a PSN version, they couldn't charge much more than $10. If they make a DS version, which really doesn't take a whole lot of work, they can charge $40 and reach a larger audience. That's why I find it unlikely that we'll ever see a PSN/Xbox Live version of any FF game.
