i got fined today

i got fined 275$ for killing a seagul. my dad and i were out lobstering and a seagul tried to steal our bate. so i took a gaff and beat the seagul to death with it. and the coast gaurd saw this and he fined me. in the state of maine its illeagle to kill seaguls wich is absoultly gay because seaguls are over populated here. there has to be atleaste 1,000,000 seaguls in my hometown alone.

You can't compare this situation to taking a puma's food. The original poster could have easily shooed the seagull away, maybe even scare it a little if necessary. But beating it to death was just wrong.

Really, why not? Clearly the puma is physically superior to you, and would kill you.
Same happened in this case.
If an animal, in this case said seagull, is so intelligent and deserving of rights and life - it would have learned a lesson from being "shooed" before, or the other gulls will learn after it's been clubbed. If not, then it's not a loss anyway.

If you've never been to a beach with gulls, I instruct you to do so right away. Gulls are more determined and stupid than pigeons. Shooing will work if you are so patient that you will shoo them every 8 seconds for the next 3 hours that you're crabbing/eating/lobstering/etc. Plus, clearly he got close enough to it to beat it. It wasn't THAT afraid of him, as gulls typically aren't.

But beating it to death was just wrong.

Last year the scaffolding(?) fell out from under a window cleaner, and he was stuck about 20 stories up hanging on a ledge. Sea gulls started dive bombing him, so he swung his arm to scare them away. One got hit and died. The man was arrested for animal cruelty.

When protections for animals hurt people, they have gone to far.

Thats almost exactly the same as a guys family who tried to sue someone for the death of their Father while he was breaking into the guys home, he managed to hang himself on a window and his family tried to sue What the hell!?
