It's fucking awesome, they melt.
snails are mostly part residue, salt diffuses etc = snail moisture.
octopuses live in salt water..... so no they would not die
death to slugs!
It's because they're like jelly. Put salt on then it melts lol
Straight from Google, you dumbass.
"You're dehydrating them. It's actually an asshole thing that you're doing. They aren't hurting anything."
I lurk these forums like a fat kid lurks cake.
Is basically a really awesome, but cruel, use of salt.

Lol. Google didn't say that. But I bet they would.
Do you love me?
Ya its a pretty messed up thing to do. Snails must have a really shitty life....
I draw with a trackbawl mouse.
It's cruel, but it's fucking funny.

Yeah, we get dehydrated when we put salt on out tongues, and since slugs have wetness all over their body, why shouldn't they get dehydrated?

I find this to be the most science pleasing answer in this thread.
lmao, i completely forgot about that whole salt on snail reaction. thats fucking awesome.
Because salt is saturated. The water in the slug's body moves out of the skin in order to try and dilute the salt. This causes the slug to become dehydrated.
Every thread I touch, dies.
I could put salt on the slugs in my shower, but they eat the mushrooms so I let them stay.

You live in an unhealthy environment. You're dieing slowly. That fungus is probably poisonus. and the air particles still trickle through your "clean" air.

I hope you realize octopi live in THE OCEAN. YOU KNOW: THE BIG SALTY PUDDLE OUT THERE

someone already answered that. Oh, and why do worms die when you spit on them? They just shrivel up and die, lol.

The water in the slug's skin secretes in order to try and dilute the saturation in the salt, thus dehydrating the slug.
WARNING- Slugs are not salt-resistant. Please refrain from pouring your salt on them.
Slugs never die when i put salt on em.
now snails, those guys just turn into piles of bubbly goo.
As with most non-ocean living animal and plant cells, salt applied externally creates a situation where the concentration of salt outside the cells is greater than that inside. Ions move into the cells and water then moves out to try and balance the difference. Thats why garden slugs shrivel, from high salt levels.

Their slimy skin is sensitive to the small amount of acid in salt so they fizzle up to it...
But they're not sensitive to citric acid...?
I guess it's just a mystery.

This is also true, dig a hole, put a bucket in it, then pour a can of bear in the bucket, you have your own collection of dead drunk slugs very soon.
WARNING---putting salt on slugs can prove to be a source of great laughs. Please try it.
I just collected a whole bunch of slugs, got them in a box in my room.
I wish I had a camera to take pictures.
I used to do that to leeches, to get them off of me when they were biting me. Hated those bastards.
