i have a question

why is it that all of you people that go to shooters, hardly ever go back to playing games like mario or zelda? i play mario and zelda, but i also play games like gears of war and batlefield: modern combat. or the high action games like ninja gaiden as compared to slow paced puzzle shooters like metroid? you people pick a genre and only play that genre and i want to know WHY?

I bought a 360 just for Call of duty 4. All those type of war games are amazing. Zelda isnt something to have a boner over. Mario isnt bad but Call of duty series > Mario. Metal gear solid series > Mario. There is alot of things out there that are better than mario but at least its not halo.

Im not the average person that loves zelda and mario the old school games i played are frogger and............hold on.......gta3. I just recently played super mario on a gameboy advance its mighty addicting.

I play Halo 3 pretty much exclusively now, although I will play the original with friends on occasion. However, I am waiting for the next Legend of Zelda title as we post...and waiting.

I enjoy tons of genres, not just sticking to shooters or platformers or whatever. My favorite 360 purchases so far have been Oblivion, Viva Pinata, and Halo 3.

Ugh. Zelda and Mario? I've always not liked that stuff - it's too childish for me. I want to fly a helicopter in Battlefield: BC or chainsaw someone to death in Gears - I'm not interested in saving a fucking princess or something.

If a game has multiplayer it serves a more competitive purpose, which makes people try to get better so they can beat their friends. Where as if you play an RPG then you can just beat that RPG and be done.

First of all, tune that fucking attitude. There's no reason for that shit. Second of all, you were stereotyping by saying people that start playing shooters don't play younger games. Maybe it's just taste in games. I for one enjoy RPG, RTS/Strategy, FPS, and Platformer, yet hate most other genres and have a hard time giving them a go. You don't have to be a little twat about it and complain about peoples taste.

Stereotyping may not be the exact term, but you're definitely not far off. Your question is based on an assumption that everybody locks themselves in one genre, which is certainly a generalization.

Anyways, I enjoy shooters, strategy, and roleplaying games a lot. The reason I don't play Mario and the like is simple: I don't own any older consoles anymore. They all died of frayed wiring and blunt trauma.

I never liked Zelda. Mario is ok, but I haven't really enjoyed a Mario game since Mario64.

NES games are still my favorite, but when it comes to newer games I'd prefer to avoid the whole cartoony thing and go with something action packed and violent... they're more exciting.

Somethign about jumping on a turtle for the 9-billionth time just doesn't hold my attention any more.

Well for 360 users what do you expect for a system with TRIGGERS!

I play a wide variety of games and am constantly switching back between ones I play. Shooters usually appeal to a wider audience because they are easy to pickup and usually not much time is needed to get used to the game while games like Zelda often take several devoted hours

That's not exactly a fair comparison -- you wouldn't play E.T. because it's considered to be a terrible game. The real question is why people leave old, yet great, games for newer games. The old games don't get worse just because they're old, but people tend to perceive old things as generally inferior to new things.
