World of Warcraft Patch.

I'm a newcomer to World of Warcraft, after a friend encouraged me to give the trial a whirl, because he'd been playing a while and he thought the game was awesome. So I played the trial, and I pretty much made up my mind after about 10 minutes or so. So I bought the full game.

But there's a problem Newgrounds.

I need a 1 GB Patch, "That's fine" I thought, the game's probably been updated quite a lot since it came out. Normally, a 1 GB file shouldn't take more than 10 minutes, 20 minutes at a stretch, now, here's the problem, the estimated time of completion is 6-7 hours, jumping to 9 at times, I don't think it's my internet connection, it's either the servers under pressure, or me connected to a server on Mars.

If it was many times larger than 1 GB I'd understand, but half the day waiting for a 1 GB file to download is beyond my patience.

Has anyone else had this issue, and it there a way to speed things up?

When I first put WoW and BC on my computer, the patches took about 6-7 hours to download. So, its not just you. I let them do their thing while I went to work. I came back, and was ready to play.

Y. it took about 7 hours to patch wow+bc. Wow is kinda dead now anyway..

Try buying daoct or some other older game and patching it. probably takes a week.

I don't get how you morons are saying this. It's still the largest MMO that isn't Runescape, and growing. I'm in no way for this game, but it's not dying. If you wish, please, explain this pathetic logic you somehow have drilled into your head.

Try switching off you firewall, closing all programs and reading a book for 30 minutes, if it hasn't gone up by a decent amount then leave it over night...

And please do NOT become a warcraft freak, as in you always go "l2p", these people are rare (1 year of playing, I met 2) because you are spoiling a game, in which 60% are not that hardcore...

Sorry I couldn't reply, I had to go take care of a few things.

Thanks for all the suggestions, but I can't turn off the firewall or anything, due to all the router stuff, it would leave everyone else with less protection, and I'm a little cautious with sites that don't guarantee no trojans and other viruses, but thanks anyway libra =)

So far, I've just waited it out, 75% done now.

I spend quite a lot of time passing on knowledge I've just learned onto fellow newbies, so I don't think I'm the kind of guy who's spoiling the game (I hope, I assume you mean the elitist nerds) and I don't intend to become a warcraft freak =P

Do you use a router? If so, then you might need to open a port for World of Warcraft's downloader. I did, and it really made my downloads a lot faster. Port Forward has step by step guides for each router type and one even specifically for World of Warcraft. I'd advise you check this out.

I don't know shit about WoW so I could be wrong but....

Doesn't the WoW downloader download slow on purpose? I thought the idea was that the downloader would download files for the upcoming patch as they became available making download times shorter when the patch is released. But, to do that they had to make the downloader slower to insure it doesn't clog up your connection so you can still play WoW lag free while it downloads in the background.

However, you can't play because you're not up to date so you have to wait for the slow downloader to download everything first. After the game is up and running, the next patch will be faster.

Yeah, you're wrong. Its slow because its a torrent-like application. You connect to the Blizzard Database, and connect to other downloaders to get the file. Yes, Blizzard doesn't give out its maximum download speed, but only because it would be unnecessary, due to lots of other users sharing the files.

Due to some people's routers, however, certain needed ports might be blocked, preventing them from connecting to peers. This could cause a dramatic decrease in download speeds.

I don't play WoW, but I like to keep an eye on Blizzards work. I'm a developer myself so I like to "borrow" ideas from time to time. :)

I'll explain, the vast majority are sick of wow because there is nothing to do for them in it. They grinded, they did all the instances. Now they are sick and they wait for something else, now AoC failed ebcause it was incomplete, WAR is a wow-clone, and I bet they will go here if it dosen't fail like AoC.

Now MY opinion on wow is that it is an horrible game, it is tedious and it feels more like a chore or a job than a game. All you do is grind to grind more. Also there is no real skill involved, lol. Worlds of WARcraft, but where is the war folks ? I only see 2 friendly factions with defined country borders that often lay friendly capture the flag games togheter.

he thing about the WORLD of Warcraft is that it is a theme park, you are invited to the place, but your actions cannot change or shape the world, also there are attractions called raids where you can pretend you kiled a major Warcraft figure like Illidan for example before he respawns 5 minutes later.

I hate WoW because there is no freedom, you only grind to grind more, now do not get me wrong, I enjoyed WoW, then I hit level 5.

And at most there's only, what, 2 people seeding, with a minimal trickling Blizzard FTP server?
