Well you should tell people why and how you guys became moderators. I mean we are quite curious on why and how. I understand you have to be trustworthy, consistent, and post in a mature or amusing manner.
But, spelling out the exactly requirements not only is impossible since all our ideas about what makes a decent mod are probably as varied as yours, albeit a little more focused on certain aspects and little less focused on others.
Making up bullshit to feed noobs is the opposite of what a mod is supposed to be... you're supposed to help new users. Also becoming a mod "ASAP" is downright impossible... because Newgrounds is an honest site.
Eh, there's no stipulation that we can't have a little fun. Personally, I don't usually like misleading users because it's not how I get my jollies. But, that doesn't mean that I can't find it amusing when other mods do. It's a decent way to get newer users acclimated to the way this place works. If you're charging headfirst into posting here without getting a sense of what this place is about, you're going to learn eventually anyway. Would you rather new users learn with a little light fun about something not-so-big-a-deal as the distinctly slim chance of moderation, or something a little more serious, like gullibility resulting in account loss?
All I have to complain about what you've just said is the misdirection of new users. It isn't right and it's not what you moderators should be doing. By saying you're here to help new users and then turn around and stab them in the back. That makes you... well, hypocrites.
It's kinda like a dose of tough-love, though. These forums have a history of adopting extremely offensive style of communique, especially when it comes to using slang as terms of endearment. I mean, if I'm familiar with someone I'm likely to greet them with "holy shit, what the fuck's up you oversized dung pile, I haven't seen you in forever." A new user won't understand the context of the teasing, and would likely interpret something like that as a flame, rather than casual teasing or any other lesser forms of ribbing. See what I'm saying? It cultivates the tough-skin that we expect NG's userbase to have, especially on a site that champions free-speech in favor of censorship when it comes to the offensive (mostly).
HAVE A NICE DAY!
Most days, I'm pleased just having one in the first place.
