Light Graffiti!

I recently learned how to do what's called light graffiti, and I decided I'd share what I came up with.

It's pretty simple:

Get a camera that can change shutter speeds (I set mine to 15 seconds)
Set it on a tripod or non-moving surface
Get a hand-held light source (I used my iPod screen and 360 controller)
Take the picture, and while the shutter closes, draw with the light source

This must be done without a flash (you can use a flash, but it'll come out better if you don't), and in a dark area.

Mine's not too good, and it's my first attempt, just kind of scribbling in the air, but I'd like to see what you guys can come up with!

The shutter of a camera closes really fast when you take a picture, yeah?

All this does, is slooow that way down so that you can capture light like this. So, instead of the shutter closing in a split second, the way I did it, it takes 15 seconds to close. When you draw in the air, it captures the motion of the object that's lit up.

Yes it is. That's how I found out about it. There's tons of awesome light graffiti videos on youtube.

Well, if you read the first post, you'll find everything you need.

I used a Canon PowerShot A540, set to the TV (shutter priority) setting, with my shutter on 15 seconds.

As for a light source, I used the backlight of my iPod. I suppose you could use any strong light source.
