Fast riffs, usually tuned in Standard or E Flat.
Complex bass lines.
Macabre or political lyrics.
Basically hardcore punk but faster, heavier and more complex.

Slipknot contains 1 out of the above 6.

I dunno if it's death metal, but it's definitely metal. And awesome.

I really think it depends on the album on some they are more metal and others they are closer to death metal but if i had to pick one overall i would say no slipknot is not death metal.

It looked like you did for a second there buddy. Misleading thread title. I was preparing to get really angry. Anyways, yeah, ignorant buffoons who have no idea about metal in general that are typically 11 years of age think so.

It's hard to classify certain bands by genres defined decades before said band actually rose. It's in my personal opinion that "Death Metal" became an official genre with bands like Death around the early 80's. It's the same with punk, singer for NOFX "Fat Mike" actually created a song in one of the newer albums about how punk music became shitty and safe because of all the children and depressed kids took it as their style. Getting back to metal, Slipknot never really had that "Death Metal" feeling. Bands simply screaming into a microphone can't be classified as Death Metal, any enthusiast would recognize that. They have some good songs, but if I had my own music store they'd have to be put in the Nu Metal section of the Metal Room.
