If I am rich enough (but hated), I can afford to develop a drug that makes everyone respect me. In order to force everyone to take it, I will use my money to develop an invincible military force.

If I am respected enough (but poor), I can convince everyone to give me money, which they will agree to thanks to the amount of respect they have for me. This will continue until I am rich.

So either way, I can end up both rich and respected.

Well, people can still hate you AND respect you at the same time, but maybe that's just semantics, and you actually meant 'rich and hated of poor and liked'?

If that's the choice, then I'd rather be rich and hated. Being liked doesn't matter to me in the least, especially considering I don't like a lot of people I meet. Respect is slightly more desirable then being liked IMO, but I guess if I was rich I could always pay people to say they respect me ;P
