At least for me, I feel like sex is an important aspect of relationships. It may not be as important as the romantic side, but it's still significant and I don't think that I could be with someone whom I wasn't interested in sexually or who wasn't sexually interested in me. But, that's not to say that that's the case for everyone. It's just my personal feelings about what I want.

I have a pretty high quality gaydar, so a lot of times I can just tell.

Also, if facebook doesn't tell you or if other people don't know, it's not too likely that he would be interested in dating you due to the fact that that's strong evidence to say he's not ready to come out yet. But, if he is out, you can probably find ways of weaseling it out of his friends.
