Lol, I wonder what has gotten into people.

Thinking that the instrument that THEY play is the best ever.

Every instrument is great, and fortunately for me, I play the Piano and the Guitar.

It's not serious. It's just a conversation.

Little one line jibs don't count.

So, don't you agree that pretty much anything can be used as an instrument?

Which is why, I don't see how you could accurately put on over the other on a qualitative scale, because the possible areas of each one haven't even all been explored yet.

I'm glad I know how to play piano, it's great. I printed off some sheet music just the other day and sat down and bashed out some muse.

Mostly because I have no idea how to play them haha.

Definitely going to get some in the near future.

The guitar is a much more expressive and dynamic instrument then the piano.

Vibrato? I think not.

Bends? I think not.

Slides? Not nearly as convincing on a piano.

Harmonics? Definitly not.

Plus the pianos tone does not change as vastly as the guitars depending on how hard a note is struck. It's a nice instrument but I love mine more.

All of this is opinionated, of course, but admit it - Piano will make you look like a cultured motherfucker and not some douche trying to play guitar.

Sound is easily modified? You can't just tune your guitar to sound different?

Besides, acoustic guitar = the sex.

NO.

PLAY THE BASSOON.

Seriously, it's so fucking deep, playing it around women literally shakes the eggs from their ovaries.

They're both hard to play, so if you have a hard time learning, don't get discouraged, it's not just you.

Keyboards have a wheel that you can use to bend the sound or if used quickly vibrato it.

Slides? Not nearly as convincing on a piano.

More people are interested in rock, so they're obviously going to pick the guitar or drums over something like the piano.

The piano is only good for classical music, unless you're playing the keyboard. But to be honest, I very rarely see bands that still have keyboard players.

My band director had a story about oboes. Some chick asked why we didn't have any oboe players in our school band, and he said that the oboe players before were all girls and they all got pregnant.

Pitch change is minimal, usualy no more then a semi tone. Bends on the guitar can be intervals of 3rds and greater.

Portamento function

I'm afraid I don't have a very good idea of what that is, but from what I read it just does a gliss between every note, on the guitar it's not uncommon to have the slide before a definite pitch is hit.

I like the fact that with my guitar, I can play a range of different styles in a range of different ways. You can differ with the strumming pattern, volume, mute, fingerstyle, range of pick strengths, capo, barre chords/open chords, distortion + other effects, right hand fretting, opening/other tuning, nylon or steel string, hammer-ons, pull-offs and whatever.

I like piano but it the feeling of just pressing down on keys doesn't excite me. Go guitars!

An instrument can't be over-rated. It's an object.
Anything can be an object. So nothing can be overrated?

I've been playing piano for 8 years, and it really made me really good at all the instruments I've been playing recently, like drums and guitar, really fast. I consider the piano the universal instrument.

i play bass guitar, mainly because i find playing bass fun and there are some really good bassists to play to, oh, and i can afford a bass.

there's not a lot of pianists i know or look up to, nor do i find playing piano to be fun, as most pianists mostly don't end up in bands and the like, which is the opposite for what i am trying to pursue.
