This frustrates me so much!
Chips are not crisps, they are what you americans call 'french fries'.

This is the same for 'pants'.
Pants are underwear not trousers.

A chip is slightly fatter than a "French fry" though, or so I've found.

I don't really mind Americans naming things different to us. Just think, German people say Hose instead of trousers, but I don't complain about that.

Depends on which country you designate each word
US "chips" = UK "crisps"
UK "chips" =/= UK "crisps"
US "french fries" = UK "crisps"
US "french fries" =/= UK "chips"

Chips are hot. Otherwise they are crisps, as demonstrated by the fact that they are thin, and somewhat... crispy. Crisps. create habitats in air tight foil containers.

French fries are like those real thin ones, as opposed to the big fish and chips stylings, which are... funnily enough, 'chips'.

If you called wither of the two just plain old chips, you wouldn't get any worrying glances.

This is the same for 'pants'.
Pants are underwear not trousers.

Pants are items of clothing which you wear around your waist and legs. Pants can mean anything of that nature. Trousers are specifically long pants, ie, you cant have a pair of trousers which only go to your knees but you can have a pair of pants which do.

Also, trousers are all dressupy.

And slightly sophisticated.

They don't become 'underpants' without the 'under'.

Also, 'underpants' is so much better than 'underwear'.

Not that I know of. I would say some hot curry or a kebab were British meals, due to all of the drunk punters on Friday and Saturday nights consumong these during the early hours of the morning.

I heard ages ago from something about something with tika in the name being eaten and sold more etc. and it was the traditional english meal which made no sense really as I am sure it is not from England.
Whatever I never liked fish and chips myself.
