Lately I have been hearing about all this crazy shit that is going to happen in 2012. most of them are "we are gonna die" rumors. Has anyone else heard of this nonsense or is it just me?

It's what the ancient mayans predict will be the end of the world. Nothing mysterious about it.

The fact that we knew this 50 billion years ago.
Meh, we have technology to destroy that meteor, so why shouldn't we? Chances are that we are.

They didn't even predict that it would be the end of the world, specifically. Just that there would be a major event that would change the world.
The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not 'Eureka!' (I found it!) but 'That's funny ...'

They predicted that a major event would happen, that would change everyday life for humanity.
I find it ever so funny how every country hates eachother, we're nearly out of oil, and we're on the verge of 2012.

Is that true? I thought that usually each generation believed they lived in the golden age.
Unless of course your living today. Gotta be pretty damned rich or pretty damned idiotic to believe that now.

I hear that the "meteor" will somehow reset our genes and all of humanity will revert back to the "caveman", and all of the technology that we have will eventually whither away, and be buried under the crust. Basically natures way of reproducing itself. Kind of makes sense if you look at how things are. But I have no fucking idea what to think. I just say fuck it, if it happens, it happens, and I can't do anything about it, so why worry about it?

You're pretty late...if you search 2012 on the searchbar, you'll get atleast 3 pages of results, lol.
But I don't think it will be the end of the world. I DO believe some kind of energy is gonna come to earth though.
Look it up on youtube.

In 2012, we'll have slightly faster internet.
Which'll lead to the doom of us all.
If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

yes we HAVE the nukes but if we use them the meteor but then it will be split in half or be broken into chunks and still hit earth. we dont have the technology such as lasers or anything like that even though people think that someone does and if you dont believe me about the nukes then watch the movie Armageddon...what they do in that movie could actually work

But at least it won't be some huge meteor that destroys the entire planet but pieces of rocks big enough to destroy a building which can be rebuilt anytime.

Also as long as we blow it to bits so the chunks burn up in the atmosphere we're fine.

Here's the most plausible theory I've heard:
Every 5,000 years, the earth tilts, The South Pole will move approximately 40 degrees west (I think, correct me if I'm wrong.) Thanks to this They will be rapid plate movement, causing earthquakes, hurricanes, Tsunamis ect, there will also be another ice age, since the Earth will be further away from the sun, it is estimated that roughly 10% of the world population will survive. I believe this theory because the others I've heard are religious, if there lreligious one is true, then there'll be more chaos as relgions will war with each other, thinking their "Prophecy" came true.
So if the theory I think is correct is indeed correct, we're not all doomed, just about 90% of us

You know, if the Mayans said that flying monkeys would come down and rape us as we slept, would we believe that too?
Scientists probably would. :P

It's because the mayan calender ends in 2012. Because their calander is the only thing holding the Earth together.

I have read about it too. A meteor directed against Earth, has the possibility to hit our planet in april 2012, but there is a bigger chance for it to miss.
Just because I don't care, doesn't mean I don't understand
