Art Forum Collab: The Wall

I remember when everyone and their mother was starting an art forum collab. The whole page of posts would be filled, and half would never be completed. Well I haven't seen any in a LONG while now, so I've decided to bring back an old tradition here and revamp it with a little something added to the style :)

We're going to make a wall, with your original ideas and work. The wall will scroll left to right, along the sidewalk and skyline. When entrants stop or slow for the most part, I will call the topic closing, and begin to assemble our work together. I'll post a link to the completed and uploaded flash submission... PROFIT!

Rules/Guidelines

1. Use real graphic editing software. Sorry, but MSPaint distorts the hell out of anything when saved as a .jpg, and the poor quality is not acceptable.
2. Your image must remain 550x450 when you post it here to be added!
3. Make sure your image flows correctly so the edges are the same as the template so it will fit with the next.
4. Limit of 3 completed works will be accepted by each user.
5. Be sure to tag your work somewhere ON THE WALL! (Add your user-name however you want)
6. The sidewalk must remain in place and in-tact
7. The sky color must remain #0099FF
8. Anything goes, be creative. Just make sure your design is your own work and does not break forum rules or portal submission rules.
9. You are permitted to use more than one template for your work, but be sure to post in the correctly separated pieces.

If any others rules or guidelines are needed once the entrants are added, I'll be sure to post the in BOLD TEXT so you may see them. Remember to read or at least skim through the entire topic before you post!

I'll start with the template piece:

This is my example of the basic idea we're looking for. However, I invite you to be creative and original and do whatever you can to fit the rules/guidelines!

Small issues:

- The wall's bricks have a shadow behind them, making them pop-out. This would look good if the wall was staying as it is, but it will always make each graffiti work look fake, like a sticker on the top.

- The wall contains too many colours, and they're too harsh. It really limits what you can use in your piece.

I suggest a completely different starting picture, something flatter, and with less contrast in colour.

With a simple opacity turn down I was hoping just about anything would look right... The image I used to build the wall from had shadows with each brick so I just added them in.

- The wall contains too many colours, and they're too harsh. It really limits what you can use in your piece.

I pulled the variant of colors straight from my sample image, but perhaps I just used too many bricks to have changed colors. I'd think with the right outlines etc that anything would work around those colors.. It'd be just like a real wall, and some things would be limited, but of someone truely is going to be worried about that, they could just break the wall down to reveal whatever the hell they want their art on, lol.

I suggest a completely different starting picture, something flatter, and with less contrast in colour.

You're probably right, but it's a little too late now, and I'd like there to be at least a little bit of a challenge anyway.

Alright, but try not to make all three too similar alright? We don't want this looking like some kind of ad spammed flash, but that brings me to a good idea.. a well designed and created ad on the wall...

On the good chance that I receive a ban over the next few days or week, don't be afraid to ask questions or anything you need to, I'll be lurking this topic and respond by PM.

This is my part...I dont really think that it's too good, but meh..It's meant to represent all the different tags that people put up all over the place, and what not...

I admit to exporting it from MSPaint, so I hope it won't look too bad...If it does I won't cry my eyes out if it isn't included....

making people have to work with your mistake isnt a challenge. its laziness.

By challenge I mean a slight bit of realism. All images I based mine from had shadows with the bricks, and many different colors ranging than this simple change between four. It shouldn't be hard to create something good enough with this how it is, and I'd rather not change it.

Niccce, and the distortion shouldn't be a big problem, I'm going to have to fix a good bit of these before the end, lol.

If these people are any sort of artist they should be using layers so the wall image could easily be swaped.

It's not just switching the base image as a problem for those who already uploaded, but for the many many many who will see this one in the first post and go to work from there.

Your reasoning sucks.
