IDEA FOR NEXT/FUTURE MAC8!

Ok, I know that there is always a LOT of debate when it comes to MAC themes, but I think I've got something good here...

I was talking with mai friends at school, and we were having our age-old "Techno vs Rock" argument. Nobody ever wins, because nobody can ever convince the other to listen to their fav genre. So, I got an idea: Why not make a song that combines the two?

I mean, that way, you would get the awesome 4/4 kick and bass of techno, with the all-powerfull electric guitar of Rock (putting it simply). That way, mabye we could create a genre/song that people on both sides liked.

Now, as I was reaserching rock music and conventions (due to my lack of listening), I thought that it might be cool to have a MAC with RocknTechno as the theme. The more I thought about it, the more the idea looked good:

1 - It appears that, on NewGrounds, the majority (not everyone though) of composers either made Techno, or Rock of some sort. Therefore, it is not a Techno-specific or Rock-specific theme, so more people will be able to enjoy.

2 - It will be a totall test of one's skills, as you have to incorperate your own fav genre with the other (Dont know too many people that LOVE both). That way, you've gotta make a song that would appeal to fans of both genres, which would be an awesome task.

3 - There would finally be a techno song that could have a solo.

4 - People who usually record themselves live on a guitar could get involved more heavily aswell.

5 - There would likley be many colaborations, with opposing genre lovers working together. This would make it easier for people who might not be able to create the other genre (rock guy who has no FL eg...)

6 - At the end of the day, we might apprecieate the other genre more...

Anyways, it's just an Idea. I dont know if it has been done before, but I think it could work... If not, I WILL still be making one of 'em for my CD ^_^

Just like no. 5, I think one of the MAC's should be a collaboration MAC.

Can the next MAC be only new submissions though? It was just annoying how many people submitted shitty old submissions just to have an entry, or made one new song and threw in an old one as a second submission just cause they could. Realistically, 1 to 2 of the old songs that were submitted will win a spot on the top 10, and the other 50 or so are just a waste of the judges time.

Dunno, just seems fair that a monthly audio contest is based on songs created in that month.

I have to agree with Gloudas. Old entries should be prohibited. That way, there would be less songs for the judges to judge, and more quality in the pieces. Also, old pieces tend not to be related with the theme.

I kind of agree with the "new" songs only idea. Or, recent songs at least. (And when I say recent, I mean 1 week at most!)

I agree too. I think it would be easier on teh judges aswell...

Also, it would force people to acually EARN the prizes!

Awesome, I really like electronica songs with guitar solos (NemesisTheory ftw, though hers are more VG than techno) And I've been playing around with the idea of making an instrumental METAL/techno mix, (metal drumming, screaming guitars and gritty synths) would be epic. I found out two of my roommates play guitar, so when I move into my dorm hopefully I can make one of these songs with their help. ZOMG please let this be the next MAC!

I actually had a pretty good idea for the next MAC... just being entitled "the summer of 08". Its not genre specific and people just submit a piece and a little description as to how the piece has described their summer.

But then again, who's going to listen to a hippy like me?

Just because there's an electric guitar in a song does not mean that it is instantly rock.

In the end, you'd be making a song that some people would like certain parts of, and others would like the other parts.

I would think collaborations would get complicated simply because there's no collab feature in the audio portal. What's stopping someone from working on something with some guy, submitting it, and saying it was all his work? Of course the other guy could complain, but it would be impossible (or at least a hassle) to find out who's telling the truth.

But a certain style of playing the guitar (powerchords lolol :D) along with hard overdrive is specific to rock.

I've heard such songs before though... And they didn't sound like a mix of techno and rock. They sounded just like techno with an electric guitar :P

On second thought, I saw the subs list. No way in hell do I have the type of free time to listen to all that. Audio artists, worship the judges... and pray your song stands out... ludicrous... I wish I payed more attention to this one!

An idea I have for the next MAC? A war theme! Those entering would have to compose the most intense, overly dramatic, epic war theme possible.

One reason I like this idea is because it can fit any genre. Rock, techno, classical/symphonic, industrial, and the list goes on. It is very difficult to compose a solid war theme, and would push many people into new territory. It would also be much more diverse then this MAC, which seemed to mostly be some combination of piano and strings. Besides, epic battle music is just plain awesome to listen to!

Pros of a war themed MAC:
-It fits well with multiple genres
-It would push many composers into unfamiliar territory and encourage MAC specific entries
-It would likely be more diverse than the piano/string combos from Sorrowed Tears. :/
-Epic battle music is awesome to compose and listen to!

Of course, collaborations would be an option as well in MAC: WAR! >:-D
