so it seems like, going through this thread that most people would like the friend system if:

a.) it connected to your favorite authors list

b.) the list was randomly generated of the people you've added as opposed to the "top ones"

c.) if it somehow also showed blog and cartoon updates

sounds like a shitload of work to me

You're kidding, right? That's been an option for a long time (over e-mail). Make sure your account options are checked to receive NG news updates and you should be set.

I thought that just gives you the top 5 and 10 flashes?

I generally dislike MySpace and similar things, but I thing that the friend system would be a welcome addition to NG. However, there should also be an option to deactivate the receiving of friend requests at a point, because I'm sure that some artists would get quite annoyed after receiving 100 requests daily. Also, I believe that the favorite/fan system should be separated from this, since you shouldn't need to get the artists permission in order of being notified when he submits anything new on the portal.

Please don't add friends Tom.

Not at all, I think that it is correct that the userpage can be kind of a dead end for people.

It says next to one of those names that that person is online, are you planning on adding a (Online)/(Offline) thingie in everybodies profiles? Cause that would be awesome to tell if their online or not.

I love the friends idea. In fact, I sent a PM to you last year (I think it might have been post redesign, although I'm not 100% on that) about it.

I would have nothing against further feature additions . . .

Not really to keen on the idea of a friends list... It does make it a bit much like myspace.. I guess it wouldn't be a bad thing though..

The friends list is a very bad idea but everything else is cool.

This friend feature is certainly what ng has been lacking, it'd be great to at least know when your favourite artists or friends are online so pming would also benefit, please dooooo it Tommmmmmmm!!

That's the biggest thing that I wanted to see. Something that tells me whether a person is online or not without having to check the forum page. I wouldn't mind something on everyone ones profile that told me if they were online or not, whether you are friends with them or not.

That's a lot of or nots.

I agree with this idea if only because your mate appears to have an icon from a game i made. :D

I'm not really fussed about the friends list thing, I don't really want a friend list so if you where to implement it and I didn't want any friends would the entire thing not show up on my profile or would it do the same as the News Post and only appear clientside?

So what I'm saying, the friendslist is a good idea, but for people like me who don't want one on their profile, make that option given to us.
