It won't happen "suddenly." It's not as if some Arab will walk over to his oil well and realize "BY ALLAH MY OIL IS GONE! GLOBAL ENERGY CRISIS!" Oil will slowly deplete, wells will run dry around the globe, and by the time it's almost "gone" it'll be so prohibitively expensive that no one will be able to afford it anyway. There'll be plenty of time to work out alternative solutions, but no one will have a motive to do so until the oil's almost gone anyway.

That is why we need to do what Brazil has done and move immediately to ethanol. Now ethanol is not the long term choice but it does provide us some short term relief that can take advantage of the current infrastructure. That is only a good plan for the next 10-15 years because using a food resource like corn is not a good idea. America only has some much land to produce corn. the long term solution needs to rely on other resources. that is where the government can step in and influence alternatives fuels that within 20 years can take over for oil. unfortunately, wars and money struggle over oil. so lets solve this. write your politicians and encourage alternative bio fuels today and electric energy long term.

We will never 'run out' of oil. There will always be some on earth somewhere, it will just become more expensive to find, and drill it than it used to be.

Is marijuana addictive? Yes, in the sense that most of the really pleasant things in life are worth endlessly repeating.

I agree with what you said about Ethanol being a short term solution but it isnt even that. Ethanol is horribly inefficient to the point that it takes two football fields of corn to get the Ethanol to get to Europe. The U.S. does not have enough land to feed people and fuel people. Also there already is a food shortage due to Ethanol and there is barely even any Ethanol out there. Ethanol is not even efficient enough for a short term solution.

You want to know what will happen? Okay i will tell you what will happen. First comes rationing, then depression, then fear, then panic, then riot, then world war three. The superpowers of the world will fight for the land that has oil. Huge wars in the middle east, the baltics, south america, kazhakstan etc... as each nation scrambles to maintain order in their society. Tens of Millions will be left dead and suddenly it won't be as big of a problem anymore since there is less demand and with fewer people, alternative energy can more easily fulfill the world's needs. Order will be restored and there will be a few more decades of peace................. or nuclear war ensues as countries fight to the last man to defend their oil reserves and MADD happens and everyone except Canadia and Australia gets nuked to hell. Fun huh?

Also the stages of grieving for dead relatives and breakups.

Look I think it will be less extreme. There well be a large oil war or more small oil wars then we have now but switching to renewable energy like solar power and solar thermal is not as hard as people are lead to believe.

It is actually quite SIMPLE really...

All we need to do is build a machine that allows us to visit alternate universes at will. I surmise there must be an infinite number of them in all. After that, we can travel to an alternate universe where we didn't go to war with Iraq yet and steal their oil again and again and again.

We will never run out.
