I dont understand. who are they and what do they do? Almost every moneth 3 people come to my door wanting to give me a brochure and asking me to join. Im a catholic!

The thing I dislike about them is that they write everything in a book...
I've seen them standing a couple of meters from my house, examining my exterior and looking for somebody standing near the window. I always open the door for them and tell them that I'm never going to be interested in them.
I believe in reiki, it took me 8 years of questioning and doubting to find something I truely believe in.

It's odd to see how these witnesses don't understand that they are no match against the years of searching and doubting I had which led me to what I believe right now. I don't really think they will ever understand that I would throw it all away when somebody just takes 5 minutes of my time to read out of a bible (without interpreting it!) and give you a brochure about their Jesus-believes and how it will heal the world and stuff like that.

I told them each and every time that it would never work. I see them writing that down in their book, and still they keep bothering me.
Some of them have been beat up or watched into the barrel of a shotgun because slamming the door wouldn't cut it. If you ring the door of an agressive type once too much, it's pretty obvious you get the dog after you for trespassing or a gun in front of your face...

I don't say that I don't respect them, but they got to understand that when someone tells them that they will never be interested that they should leave you alone for the rest of your life. In case you are interested in ANY belief, you have the chance and the right to seek information yourself.
What these witnesses do is force you to listen even if you aren't interested at all.

The point I wanted to make is that it's too easy...
Belief is something that grows over the years. I was a Catholic until I turned 12. I started asking big questions, I noticed the things that I disliked, I've seen people change because of their believes, I've seen people become ogres when they all of a sudden found everything they did legitimate because it was for God.

When I had to follow lectures, I've seen how ordinary people turned into corrupt, disrespectful brutes because they knew most of what was written in the book instead of interpreting it. In fact, interpreting it was considered bad, because you were questioning the word of God...
I found out pretty fast that they didn't want you to ask questions because you would have found out the truth, you would have become sceptical, you would have started interpreting the book and those who enjoyed their power would loose that very thing.

So I went my own way. Never regretted it. It took me a lot of time, but at least now I can say that what I believe is something I truely believe, with all my heart!

Eugh, they're starting to come out of the woodwork in my town too. I got 4 of them these past 2 months. Luckily, they come on Saturdays and I tell them that since we're Jewish and it's the Sabbath, we can't accept any religious material. I do it in a nice calm voice, and they leave, but if they ever decide to stay after I tell them that they will get such an ear-raping from what I have to say about their beliefs.

I find it reasonable. And yes, I thought about it the same way you did. I left the "arsed" out of that opinion, though... but still, I gave it a chance. It kept my interest, I have felt it working, I've seen the effect it has on others.
And I do have to confess that it's not all roses and butterflies... there ARE a lot of "fake" healers out there.

I try to do my very best to not end up like these. Being a social worker and knowing when you better send somebody into regular therapy instead of alternative healing methods or religion really helps.

The Jehovah Witnesses always go door to door then if they get a don't call back, they have to keep that in mind till a year pass to check and see if they moved or something so they can continue going back there and stuff. They know people won't care but they believed it must be done according to the Bible they say.

Luckily I live far enough out in the middle of nowhere that Jhovas Witnesses don't bother me. I had a friend who lives in town that told me he has to turn them down almost every month though.
