Would you prefer a 4 minute long animation with OK graphics and animation, but nothing out of this world? Or a 1 minute thing, with amazing graphics and animation but it's farily short?
I'm just wondering...
What do you think is better in a Flash submission: quality or quantity?
Quality, you need great quality and a decent amount of time for a great submission.

Like Waterlollies? I would have voted 5 on the preloader alone...
Quality.
Anyone can make a 4minute long flash with OK graphics as the only thing that sets it apart is length which comes with spending time on it. Whereas quality is rare. Newgrounds it currently full of "OK" movies. We need more quality.

Also out of interest, what counts as a quality Flash in terms of rating? 3.5 or over? Or over 4?

Over 4 because alot of decent Flashes get over 3.5 but the best ones get over 4.
Depends, Look at Egoraptor.
He's got some semi long stuff with disgraceful animation, but it's funny and people like it.

yeah, i think that the Flash portal's 'great score' and 'awesome score' is a bit off these days...but this thread is going a bit off topic...

Some of his later animation is actually pretty fucking fantastic.
But yeah, without a doubt quality over quantity. Obviously the best results come from a careful balance of the 2 though.
A bit of both cos i dont want to watch 10 secs of fantastic or 10 mins of bad, i want 1 minute or great
Today really good quality flashes, in my opinion are around 4.1+ maybe a bit higher. Only a few months ago the highest score on NG was around 4.28. Now the highest is about 4.4. The site has become full of people who just vote 5 or 0. Hardly anyone these days votes properly on those inbetween ones. I plead guilty, I vote 0 on a lot of flashes that deserve a higher score. But this is an effort to counter-balance the people who vote 5.
Back on topic.
A 30 second to a minute quality animation is probably the optimum. Unless you have a great story line or its funny.

No thats wrong. Ok the art isnt traditionally great. But his animation as a whole has me in hysterics everytime. The quality of the whole thing is very very high, which is why it has a good score.
Basically you dont need great art, but you need great something, in Egoraptors case the animation and voices.
I personally don't think it's the right question to ask at all. Why don't you just make the animation as long and as good as it's supposed to be?
Hi there!
bolth are fine but i would have to say quality...........no bad graphics though period!

I believe the preloader for that was made by someone else.
But yeah, definately quality, especially if you plan on showing this to someone for your portfolio. (Future)
