What it meant was that if you voted more than 5 times that particular day and kept on voting those votes would count towards your next grounds gold day. For example, if I voted 8 times on Wednesday I would only need to vote 2 times on Thursday to deposit my experience.

Before the redesign you needed to vote on at least 5 movies and then click a link to deposit your experience, now it's done automatically.

So that's why I never needed to deposit my experience.
The only thing you get for voting overtime now is Blam/Protect points now. Of course you have to vote on submissions under judgment.
