Al Gore's energy usage in his mansion increased 20% during 2007, despite installing solar panels and energy-efficient light bulbs.
He now uses 50% more energy in one month than the average American uses in the entire year.

Hypocrite much?
How can anyone believe this man's bullshit?

It's pretty much the same thing as holding an international climate conference in Bali, Indonesia and having all the world leaders fly there in their private jets.

We're really lacking good role models in the fight against climate change. But when have politicians ever been good role models in anything at all?

Well actually, jets are probably the most energy efficient mode of transportation out there, besides maybe a high speed magnet train or whatever they are.
Anyways, from this page, it says that the Gore household purchases their power from a local Green Power Switch program among all the other shit that is suppose to be eco friendly, then they throw money at what ever carbon footprint they leave, offsetting it to zero.

accept for the fact that they don't have away to remove the carbon dioxide and all the other crap from the atmosphere so paying off your carbon footprint is like paying bush to run the country... its stupid and inefficient.

Well he uses 50% more energy, but he buys enough carbon credits to offset it. However, no one actually knows if carbon credits actually do anything so it could be a huge scam

Lol I'm glad someone is finally making some sense.
I agree with you 100%, all this talk about carbon credits is stupid. You need carbon dioxide in your body, and plants need it to make food. I'm all for finding alternative fuels and making things more efficient, but let's go for something that's going to last another 100 years instead of switching every vehicle to a hybrid, then biofuel, then hydrogen, then electricity.

Same thing goes for finding ways to make electricity.

Pretty much is. I know non-developed countries can sell carbon credits to developed countries.
So I'd say it's pretty much a scam as well.

Carbon credits, good God. There's no way to get rid of the CO2 in the atmosphere, currently. You can't exactly get a big vacuum and suck it all out provided you have the money for it.

That's more along the lines of killing someone and then paying them restitution.

carbon credits is the way that the rich get to keep on with their lavish lifestyle without drawing the ire of the people they are telling to be more modest in their energy consumption. It also allows 3rd world dictators without huge industrial plants and millions of cars to benefit by selling off "carbon credits". To me this is about the same as bashing in mailboxes, then leaving some money on the neighbor's doorstep. the mailbox is still destroyed.

Does it matter? Does a fat doctor telling you that you need to lose weight make it okay to ignore his advice?

Is he right? Yeah, probably.

Is he a hypocrite? Yeah, a bit.

Is he right? If so, then what's the matter?

Carbon credits are bullshit.
Some types of farms where they harvest fruit or palm oil are eligible to sell carbon credits... But think about it; a lot of these farms had to clear large forested areas to make their plantations in the first place. Essentially, carbon credits are useless.

Essentially, carbon credits are useless.

Exactly, there is no possible way carbon based life forms can totally get rid of CARBON ! Sure we may have an overabundence, & cutting back on certain activities may be the way to cut this...but just how does a new tax help anything ?

If he doesn't follow what he preaches, then obviously he doens't believe in what he is saying. If "global warming" is such a problem, he would certainly follow his own advice. But he doesn't believe in it because its absolute bullshit.

He just likes to be in the public limelight and make loads of cash.
If he doesn't believe in what he says, then the only reason for this "huge" outcry against global warming is that it is a cashcow. If he really believed that the ice caps are going to melt and flood most of the world then he would follow his own advice.
