Well i had this old compaq prestario that had windows 98. It will slow and the internet cables are broken. So i figured whats the point of it anymore. So i booted it back up, waited 15 minutes for it to load up, went into the windows folder, and deleted all the files in system 32. After 3 files were deleted, the blue screen of death came on and the computer shut down. I tried to start it back up but it would int. So i threw out.

Complete rubbish. The system32 directory was only used from NT onwards. Before that all windows OSes stored their files in a folder called "system" with no prefix indicating the bit number of the platform.

System. Contains 16-bit versions of protected and real mode drivers and .dll files used by applications. These files are provided for backward-compatibility with older applications. Additional 16-bit driver files can be stored in this folder.
