Hello all you Civ players out there.

Some of you may know that Civilization Revolution comes out in 24 hours, and seeing as its the first Civ to come out on consoles I'll be buying it day 1.

I'm a big civ fan and I think its time to have a thread to discuss gaming strategies especially with the online play.

So first things first. Whose actually getting Civ Rev? What civilization will you use first? And what victory will you go for first?

Me? I'm going with the Japanese because I want the samurai unit for some reason. And for sure going for the Tech Victory to be the first to get to Alpha Centauri.

Good luck with that, the space race is impossible.
I will probably get it by Summer's end, and I will go with the Arabs and go for economic or military victory, whichever one comes first. But I'm a bit tech heavy, to me, the military comes when the military is good enough. I usually formulate proxy wars and then blast the people who oppose me with nukes (as long as they have no anti-nuke defenses, if they do, mechanized infantry would take care of them.)

that why I'm doing it lol maybe its easier now

same here I don't like war unless it's necessary for expansion, or if a guy declares it on me. I hear in civ rev, the AI likes to go to war often if you don't at least build an army or two to scare them off.

I played the demo and basically to stop them from going to war with me while I expanded, I'd just send a few units along their borders and they'd keep to themselves for the whole game.

I'm usually Persia. What I try to do is kill anyone that's near me, and then build up alliances and my army and then destory every other civilization with nukes!!!
That's usually the easiest to do. Space Victory is effing impossible.

I find befriending countries with precious resources and then destroying their entire civilization when they're fresh out as I've put a lot of research into technology and I can afford musketmen when they still have archers.

Getting Civ Rev tomorrow, heard they dumbed it down though.

Though my past experience of civilization had me wondering what the hell I was doing, this one seems simple enough for the majority of people to play.

I will buy the game, but not yet, Im going to wait till the price drops because I don't feel like forking out £40 for it yet.

On another note: Anybody actually beaten the demo? I did it as Egyptians and was one turn off beating it as purple (forgot the name, and I can't be asked to look it up)

i like to play slow so no unfortunately. Tho I've talked to players that have. They did it economically and just gold rushed everything with a ton of cities.

Hardly. I suck at Civ IV, yet, on Civ:Rev I completed all 4 victories as Genghis Kahn without too much hassle.

Yeah they have a bit. I downloaded the demo and thought the game was awful, compared to the PC versions. The advisers kept popping-up at the bottom of the screen (like in Theme Park World) and they talked gibberish (like in The Sims). The whole thing looked and felt really cartoony and simple.

Still that was only the demo, I imagine the actual game will be better, especially if you can play against your mates.

Now the time has come I just wish I could erase all the damage done,
All this pain, all this heartache.
It's only just begun, it's been fun, we were fucked up and numb

I've not got it yet, but when I do I'll play as the Mongols, like I do in every Civ game, and win by killing everyone else.

Mongols are ridiculously good, every barbarian city you destroy becomes one of your cities instead.

lol gotta love that.

Germany will be my favorite for domination. They're units automatically upgrade as you research tech. Only other way to have that done if u build the workshop wonder. And only 1 person can have it.

It'll be the first Civ game I get, mostly because BBM recommended it, and it seems to be something that will engross me for a long while which is kind of what I need right now. Just reading this thread, it seems to be a bit more complicated and expansive than I thought. I'll be eagerly awaiting tomorrow.

Please blame it on the son of the morning, thanks again.

if you've never played a civ game ever it's more than enough. The Tech Tree could be larger for some civ fans but it's still decent if you ask me.

That sounds really good on paper, but I learned pretty quickly in the demo that poorly placed cities stay stagnant and quickly get overtaken by people who are producing more culture. Then you're running the risk of losing troops and helping someone achieve a cultural victory.

as long as the other civ desides to build a lot of temples than yeah that pretty possible. It's temples that convert other cities right?

Civ's pretty balenced. Almost everyone has some kick ass ability to totally overwhelm another. I love that fact. It gives me a reason to play them all.

How long does it take for the space colony to reach the Alpha Centauri?

Common sense isn't so common any more.

So I've gone through two scenarios and beaten the game in two different ways (domination and economic) on easy mode which I quickly found to be way too easy for its own good. I'll be trying out the 2nd easiest difficulty now and work my way up. I hope that with some extra challenge, I'll learn how to get through certain situations such as actually having an enemy army come to attack one of my cities, which never happens in easy mode. It'll also probably make the game a lot more fun to play.

Please blame it on the son of the morning, thanks again.

Had this game for awhile now, and loved it. the old civ games always confused me slightly, but this is very simple. still missing some achievements namely the deity ones and win with one city. still a good game with hours of entertanment.
