Well, apparently in Madison, WI 1 million. Don't you just love it when judges set bail for murderers? "That guy was worth 20 million, fuck it."

If a man is put in jail for killing another person, they shouldn't be allowed out.

Yeah, it's stupid to set amounts so high, but stupid in itself to set bail at all. Jail is there to give them time to learn about what they've done. Like a hardcore naughty corner. You can't bail your way outta the naughty corner.

you people are stupid

you don't understand what bail is

you go to jail to await your trail bail gets you out of jail, then you go to your trial , if convicted to go to prison if not you're free

and either way just for showing up to court you get your bail back

This man has not been convicted of a crime

innocent until proven guilty , he has every right to live his life normally until he is convicted

Ofcourse. I mean if the man is rightly convicted of murder or a crime equal or greater to the crime of murder, e.g. rape or torture, then they shouldn't be allowed out.

I really don't think that changes the fact that prisoners can be released on bond, even if they're found guilty

They can't. Once you are found guilty, you are sentenced. There is no such thing as bail after sentencing.

Bail is only set to make sure that people come back to court for arraignments and trials. Sometimes people are held in jail to make sure that they aren't going anywhere. Since those people haven't been convicted of anything, bail is given as an option to let them continue to live their lives before trial while still giving them incentive to come back for their court date.

If the sentence for murder was 30 years or 1M dollars, we'd have a hell of a lot more murders on our hands.

Uhhh, yeah.

He has to post 10% in order to not go to jail, and if he skips out on his court appearance then the rest of the money is due.

This is done to make sure he shows up for his court date, at which point he gets his money back.

This has nothing to do with the 'value' of the victim.

Innocent until proven guilty has no meaning anymore?
