What do You <3 about the AP?

My favorite thing about the Audio Portal is probably the fact that there are so many undiscovered songs and artists out there. This makes clicking around random songs very interesting and funny (and uh, sometimes makes me kinda sad too :p). The visualizer is a nifty and fairly unique installement too.

What is YOUR favourite thing about the AP? Anything goes, from the music, the system, prehaps the audio forum - or whatever!

Note that this is not a thread about what you don't like or how to make the AP better, bright ideas can be posted here, and zero voting... we've heard it all before.

So, what makes you <3 the Audio Portal?

I'd say that my favorite thing about the Audio Portal is the unique chance amateur musicians and composers can show their music to the "world".
In addition there's a ton of talented and insightful artists, and awesome people.
You see diversity in genres, as well as getting the constant feedback that helps people better themselves.

I don't see the audioportal as a medium for fame, but for development and learning.

My favorite thing is how people who are just new to newgrounds go like " OMG this is awesome!" And they give a 9. lol. Kidding.

I agree with you rucklo. Many awesome songs are downvoted and hard to find, even though some are just really bad but the ones that are good are really good.

I <3 how sleek and new the AP looks, so no matter what you hear, it still looks good.
I also <3 the community within the AP, it's one of the best things about being overshadowed by the FP, there's a lot more good honest feedback. Sure, there's your fair share of one line reviews, but compared to the flash portal? I think that the majority of audio artists put more effort into their reviews than the majority of flash artists do.

I love the way i can hear lots of songs.
Different styles and different quality.
Somehow getting alot of inpiration of the 'noobish' tracks out here in newgrounds.
While also some from amazing songs on the AP.

This place got it all ;)

I love how the AP has kind of a "small town" feel, where everyone seems to know everyone else. The Nav bithday thread is a great example, how all of these members (even if they didn't know him personally, they still knew of his work) took time out of their day to wish him happy birthday.

I also like how much easier it is to build up a fanbase than the FP. Like if one person reviews your song, then you review his, then pretty soon every time you submit, you know that you have a buddy who'll give you some good feedback.
There are not many websites like that on the internet.

that and the massive fandom is nice - and the fact that since this is like the 8th most popular site in the world I get to make music for free and still get tons of exposure - and really - that IS what music making is all about :)

I also like everything that is bad about it. It is a no-mans land where everyone must SURVIVE!

I also love how everyone cheerfully zero-votes everyone else - but claims they don't :P

I also love how a user can disappear for 3 years on this site, but their music remains, and then they can come back.,.. and everyone is like "YAAY YOU'RE BACK - wait who are you?"

I also love the statwhoring - its like one of the only things people can actually strive for - and it is encouraged by the mods themselves!

I also love the higher ups who let me remain a mortal so I can have all my fame and glory without attributing it to merely being a mod :P

but most of all - I love the gay-loving atmosphere of the audio portal - although I think its a tad creepy that I seem to have become the SOLE gay icon for all things gay related - oh well, whatever works.. :P

I love the reviews and the forums. If It was not for other artists that reviewed my songs and gave constructive feed back, I would be allot worse off. The NG community helped me out so much. The entire reason that I started creating music is NG. The Forums are awesome as well. The thread that helped me the most is the "FL questions" thread.

Yeah I always see people complaining about how the AP isn't as popular as the FP but it isn't really that bad. You might not get rewarded as much for making an OMFG song compared to an OMFG flash but the reviews and feedback you get is more on a personal level now and it's easier to take each one into consideration.

I dunno if its all that noticeable but the thing I really enjoy about the Audio Portal is the unique sound it has. You can listen to songs here that you will never see come from professionals but still is an amazing song. Some of the Trance and Dance music is a good unique listen along with the things that come out of Classical, and some DnB.

The unprofessional sound we have is a great way to build style and get noticed. Thats what I've always enjoyed seeing in the audio portal. No one is really trying to achieve professional status.

Well in all honesty, the audio portal was what really got me into electronic music and expanded my views on classical. I like what it was before. But now..

I just said that since I remember when the Flash portal was at an easy 300k submissions and the audio portal was still at 2k.
I remember when there were 4 threads a day asking who "ParagonX4" or "ParagonXG" and many numerous misinterpretations of "9" was, when Czer323 was still alive, when there were less problems than there are today.

The AP is a brilliant development arena, while on the other side of the coin it is a soul crushing spirit slayer. Like a god with polar disorder. Givith and taketh like it was on crack.

To sit back and listen to some of my favorite underdogs and friends become true and powerful musicians. I gotta tell you, nothing beats that feeling. I remember WAAAAY back when SBB was teh suxxorz (hey, we all did at the beginning right?) and I was going, please, please stay and learn.

Thankfully he did, and to hear his work now is insane. A lot of good people in the AP have traveled this road. Including myself (anybody wanna go listen to sum MaestroEmo tracks ;D?!)

The small community feeling is also just ace. Though it sucks when somebody leaves. You don't know at first but a week goes by and then a month. It stings more then other places because a voice you'd interact with constantly has gone silent.

Guys, this is a thread about what you love about the AP not about what bugs you about other people... So lets keep that stuff to PM's and stuff like that.

I love how you can get heard across the world for real. People sort of take it for granted and just start saying how its so bad... What they dont realize is that there a person from almost every country that could be listening to their music, how cool is that.

Mine is that when you want to have a great song in your background for your flash but it's copyrighted, chances are someone's already made a complete ripoff instrumental of it and posted it in the public domain

Two words: The community. I've met the most awesome people on this site.

I still feel sad when I think about the people who used to be regulars and aren't anymore. I kind of miss the feeling of being the "new guy", when everyone else seemed to be such a staple in the forums.

A lot of them are now MIA. Khuskan, LJCoffee, B0UNC3, Erkie, SineRider, the list goes on.

But there are always those who stay, like Chrony, who actually ended up getting me on making music in teh first place.

And it's nice seeing new people come by, and a lot of them are awesome, like Nav, even though he's not new anymore, WritersBlock, who is the most awesome new person ever, again, not really new anymore, PandaKore, etc.

The music helps, and it makes the place awesome. I've learned so many new techniques from being here, and I've had no trouble experimenting and stretching my boundaries. I'm sure you guys have seen the results of my experimentation, and it normally starts out badly. :D

However- all it does is make me better.

I <3 the AP in essay form. :D
