Am I missing something here? Why is this trophy system thing for the ps3 the biggest thing to happen since the clubbed baby seal? Maybe it's only a minority of owners who care about it but it seems like trophies are getting more hyped than the games themselves. And now people are saying they're going to not buy games like Resistence 2 because they've said they're not giving trophies? wtf. Could someone explain to me why the XMB isn't the only major change in the psn for 2.4
I guess this might not apply so much to me since I basically play my ps3... to play the game... not really compete.

But Microsoft actually did it right. Sony could have had it at launch, but they didn't think they needed it. But now they suddenly decide they need it, so they are implementing it and doing a horrible job at it. I can understand giving developers a choice, but that will just alienate certain games because people who do give a shit about it won't feel as obligated to purchase the games not containing the trophies because they are stat whores.
Its suppose to "enchance" replay value.

Yeah, it seems like when the Xbox 360 has a feature that the PS3 doesn't have, they say "lulz, its ovarrated noobz" and when that feature comes to the PS3, they say "ALL GAMEZ ON TEH PS3 NEED THIS NOW". I like the achievement system on the 360. It gives you something to work for outside of just beating the game giving some games replay value and others more play value then originally intended.
GTA IV is a decent example... some of the achivements are to flip a car 5 times in one wreck or blow up 10 cars in 10 seconds. These are things that wouldn't normally be done in the game but 360 players do them anyways just for the achivement credit. It gives you something to do besides simply beat the game.
Other achievements mark that you not only beat the game, but how well you did. Like there are achivements in Dead Rising for saving x amout of people. So it's worth replaying the game to try to save all 50... giving a game I wouldn't have normally replayed, replay value.
And some of them actually incourrage peple to play online at an attempt to keep the community alive. It doesn't work very well, but it does work.
I think you'll find you enjoy the trophy system more then you think. Especially when you start seeing that "Trophy Earned" message pop up on the screen after doing something difficult.

Unless you can buy games and stuff with the points, it's worthless, so why bother wasting time at SONY making new software for a console that costs more to make than the cost for us to buy. They are just expanding too quickly.
It kinda makes people want to replay the game differntly instead of just shooting someone and gameover.
