The governor of Missouri has just signed off on a bill outlawing "cyberbullying" . . . the act of intimidating or stalking or basically being a prick to another internet user.

This was prompted by a whiny little girl who slowly strangled herself to braindeadedness after learning her cyberpal didn't want to be her "friend" . . . someone who you care deeply for, anymore.

I pose these questions to you:

1) Is this law constitutional, or does it violate the first amendment in it's vagueness?

2) Have you ever been cyberbullied?

3) Why didn't you kill yourself?

4) Opinions?

I hate these new buzzwords were using.

Parents need to realize that computers are a new medium that is not going away any time soon and they need to be involved in what there children do online.

Cyberbulling is no different that regular bulling but it's just not talked about because the child can do it in seclusion with out adult interference. When the fuck are parents going to wake up and look at what there children are doing on the internet.

The law is stupid and is already in existence.

It's called harassment.

I suppose the courts will decide this soon enough, I really hope somebody challenges this law as soon as possible. Even if it isn't unconstitutional it's still a stupid law that tries to replace good parenting with bad legislation.

2) Have you ever been cyberbullied?

No not really

3) Why didn't you kill yourself?

Because I'm not completely emotionally unstable.

4) Opinions?

Like I said bad legislation trying to replace good parenting.

What I thought cyberbullying refered to was kids from the same school bullying another kid online, not just some random kid bullying someone else across the planet.

Like, every time I've heard about these cases, it was kids from the same school. In which case, outlaw bullying...?

No more wedgies. That's 10 years.

I concur, wasn't the random thing refered to as cyber terrorism at one point? That may have been just the stories when they were talking about hacked myspace accounts though.

Seriously thought, why are we attacking the bullies. They aren't the problem, the problem is that kids put themselves in that position to be made fun of, because they have shitty parents.

Good point.

The girl also put the noose around her own neck, which pretty much seals the deal no matter you cut it.

She forgot to kill her parents first though, who are the ones really pushing the legislation on crocadile tears and fluffy asbestos.

Yeah, I thought that too originally, because that would fall under current harrassment laws. Yet the case where the lil girl done got hunged, a federal grand jury issued the indictment. Scary, ain't it?

It's fucked up. It really is.

If I could type out that I had a bullet for every legislator supporting this type of bullshit bait-n-switch without being added to even more federal watch lists, I would.

The idiot should've just blocked the guy on IM.

2) Have you ever been cyberbullied?

I've seen trolls, but if any of them tried to annoy me through AIM I'd just block them and forget about it.

3) Why didn't you kill yourself?

This kid probably had a lot else going on. Any normal person would just block the harassing IMs.

4) Opinions?

Cyberbulling isn't bullying because the victim has to willingly consent to it. This kid had the ability to just block the messages from AIM (or better yet not even run the program). If it had gone onto a forum he could have just contacted a mod, and issue would've been dealt with.

Basically the parents are making a big deal out of cyber-bullying as a way to put the blame on something, because they feel absolutely worthless right now.

They are going through hell and they feel they need to say cuber-bullying is at fault, however the real culprits at them.

They did a terrible job at raising their daughter, so much that some person whom she never met face to face challenged her self-worth to the point were she didn't believe she should have been alive.

The blame is squarely on their shoulders, and truth be told, it is understandable how hard that must be for them. Thus for them, the actions they are taking in order to make it in their view that they are not responsible for their daughters death.

The true villians in this whole story are the slimebag politicians making more restrictions just to capitalize on a fervor and score cheap political points, thus further highlighting the shortcomings of democracy.

But ok seriously I don't see anything in this article about someone killing themselves over something people they don't know said.

:O
It just seems like the kids harrassing the other kids.

also, check out these fucking retards:
"and experts who study cyberbullying say it can be more damaging to victims than traditional bullying like fist fights and classroom taunts."

And that is why psychology is a joke.
Are they kidding? Are they fucking kidding? Cyberbullying by total strangers is WORTHLESS. There is NO WAY, I repeat, NO WAY IN HELL that you'll EVER get in trouble for insulting a random stranger kid, EVEN if you get on a bandwagon started by kids who knew that.. kid.

None. That's the road to madness I say, MADNESS :O

Btw, experts who study cyberbullying? Who are these morons? How many years of experience could they possibly have anyways? 3 at most? Oh, look at this guy, he's got 5 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN THIS FIELD.
He even joined TWO FORUMS.

jerks.

Yeah, and these are the people that morph into 'experts' on 'cyberbullying' nine years down the road when some partially-retarded pizza face plasters his brains on the ceiling after "Michelle" suddenly "dumps" him.

Unbelievable. Who the hell are these judges to do shit like this?

The circuit court judges just love pushing new and exciting precedent blindly bounding over existing laws to create a namesake. Hey lets let an adult lawyer deposition a fourteen year old kid who may have talked to her frankly because my darling daughter must have been provoked.

Obviously my condolences for their loss first and foremost.

Grieving parents must be assured that their is only unquenchable questions and no direct causation to a teen suicide. Adjusting blame to bullies simple is distracting from the fact she is dead. Unfortunately for the parents their zealous pursuit for "justice" is only a diversion from accepting their own melancholy.

It's not if there was any real harassment. You can't harass someone on the Internet. There are block buttons and these magical, mysterious obelisks of power only known to us lesser beings as red x's found at the top right corner.

Unless you're hacked or actually seriously stalked, there is no issue. And there are already seperate federal laws against those offenses. This is just bullshit.

Maybe these kids wouldn't kill themselves if their parents actually cared about what they do on the internet. Besides, the little girl should've known no one is who they say on the internet. For all you know I could be an imaginary spaghetti monster or a murderer.
