Should smoking be banned?

No. I don't smoke, but if I have a problem with it, then I go somewhere where there isn't smoke.

I think it's a matter of choice. Smoking is dumb, but people can choose to wreck their lungs if they want. The tax they pay for cigarettes covers their medical treatment later in life so, it all balances out.

Also, if smoking were banned, there'd be a lot of illegal smuggling of tobacco into the country (more so than there is now, from France or wherever) which would result in higher prices going to the criminal organisations involved.

I doubt it will ever get completely banned, the industry is way to big for that to happen.

However they are making smoking laws a lot stricter and they might even make it worse (like smoking's only allowed in your own home or some shit) but I dunno if it'd go that far.

Yes, but it's not an issue of whether they wreck their own lungs, it's whether they wreck yours. Secondhand smoke is more toxic than the smoke they're inhaling, after all.

I'd like to point out that yurgenburgen makes a good point. The U.S banned alcohol and organized crime flourished. What they should do, it legalize everything, and tax the shit out of it.

I think it should be kept legal, but restricted so that you can only smoke in your own home (or a friend's home if they allow it, whatever).

On the surface this seems like a good idea, but if something like heroin were legalised, addicts would still rob and kill people for money to pay for their drugs. Criminal organisations would thrive by selling heroin to the addicts slightly cheaper than what the government is asking. Also, heroin comes from places like North Korea, so by allowing it we'd be fuelling sinister countries.
